Feed dogs stuck in down position

that the feed dog lever is in the up position. When the lever is in the down position, the feed dogs will show on the top if there is no pressure on them at all. Make sure that the machine makes one complete cycle to check this. Just throwing the switch does not make them come to the surface.

If this does not work, then the feed gear is broken and you will need to take it to a mechanic.

Error message on Brother SE-270D sewing machine

The safety device will activate if the machine has a bind or is unable to run at correct speed. If you turn the handwheel is it tight/hard to turn? if it is than thats it. Now what is binding the machine has to be diagnosed.

Can't shirr on new brother sewing machines!

The bobbin case tensions are "preset" from the factory. I would not recommend turning the tension screw that is locked with paint. You can however get a replacement case and break the seal and use that one for specialty thread and such.

Pure problems

That series machine has had a LOT of issues with the "automatic" upper threading/needle threading mechanism. I believe that is where the issue is coming from. I would take it to a authorized Brother dealer and they should be able to diagnose. Many things can interfear with the top tension on that mech. and a good tech will be able to help.

I'm new to embroidering. I have BrotherSE-270

Your machine probably came with brother embroidery bobbin thread (one spool, white)...I used it until it was gone and did buy more embroidery bobbin thread at a regular superstore (it wasn't brother brand though)...however, I have since used regular thread and not had problems. HOWEVER, be sure it is good, quality thread - none of that $.50/spool stuff. That knots up and simply doesn't look good if it does work. Good luck!

My Brother SE 270D will not read my Ped Basic

Usually this indicates a design larger than 4x4. Check the design on you PED Basic to see what size it is and then use a sizer program to shrink it if that is the problem.

Bobbin don't turn

In the shuttle area there is a silver round piece- called the shuttle race cover. It has a black ear on the right and a black ear on the left. Push the right ear to the right, and the left ear to the left and the silver ring should come out. Behind the silver ring is the bobbin case stuck in the hook. Remove that, jiggle it, move it, just work the bobbin case out of the hook. Now put the hook back in the machine. In the machine there is a driver that looks like a half moon. Your hook looks like a half moon- make a full circle out of both of them. Re-install the race cover, pushing the left ear to the right and the right ear to the left to secure the race cover, and your problem should be solved.

Try making the material tighter in the hoop and check your bobbin to be sure it's a L (look at your instruction manual...it will show you which bobbin works and which does not. I say this because you have a tension problem...dont we all, Ha Ha!

Bottom thread problems

Make sure that the needle is inserted with its flat side to the back and that the machine is threaded correctly, particularly the take-up lever.

Make sure that you turn the handwheel counter-clockwise (hand on top turning towards you).
