Brother SE-270D Computerized Sewing Machine - Page 6 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I would like to find
My advice is to try going to a shop that sells machines and gives lessons for free. I bought from JoAnn's and they gave me lessons on it. I bought a Brother for $549 and I am not sorry because I actually know how to use it thanks to the girls at JoAnn's. I would not be using all of the features if I didn't have the hands on instruction. The manual is great for a refresher but nothing beats doing it and someone answering your questions. Think about it before you buy online, you may save a few bucks but in the long run you will be happy to have a relationship with people who care if you have a problem and can help you.

The solution is to replace the rubber gear that engages with the drive gear. It has melted. Where do I find the part and what is the part number

You could just call Brother customer service, and they may be able to guide you. The phone # 1-877-276-8437. You have a very nice machine so you don't want to have just anyone look at it, be careful who does. My sister learned the hard way. Good luck

This is a common problem for these machines with a cartridge type threader. I have tried to find someone to fix one of these and the answer I got from two repairmen was "thread it manually." Apparently the frequency of using the cartridge threading mechanism wasn't tested enough before being put on the market. When it works, it's wonderful but the only solution is to get a second cartridge. When they first came out, I sold them at a place where I worked and they told me to sell a second cartridge with the machine. They said it was so you could have another color handy and ready to go but now when I look back, maybe they realized that using the cartridge daily was too much wear and tear and if the customer had two of these, it would take longer for them to wear out. Just my opinion.
The machine works good and then all of a sudden
Make sure that your thread spool is feeding the thread the right way and when you have it threaded, pull on the thread with the presser foot up to make sure that it is feeding right before you start to sew. Put in a fresh needle and make sure that the flat side of the needle is facing rear of the machine. Refer to your manual, and read it carefully because they have lots of tips. You can also go to
www.brother-usa.com and download a manual or call them for free.
The bobbin thread is showing
when bobbin thread shows on top, it means that there's too much tension on top thread.
1. Check if top thread unwinds and feeds up well. Make sure that the spool doesn't slide off horizontal spool pin. If it falls – it creates too high tread tension by not giving the thread to unwind properly.
2. Check that the needle is good, not sticky, and allows the thread to come through it easily. It should have a large enough eye.

If the timing is off is needs an authorized repairman to fix it with metric tools. Not a repair that can be done at home. Usually costs between $50-150 depending on your area.
I need a replacement needle to embroidery. need to
The thread cassette has no bearing on what needle you use. You need a Schmetz embroidery needle with the red band size 75 for light to medium weight fabrics or a size 90 for heavier fabrics such as denim.

Make sure you have the flat part of the needle to the back when putting it in and that it's (preferably) a Schmetz embroidery needle with the red band either 75 or 90 or a Schmetz universal 80. Make sure when you install it you can see the top of the needle in the needle slot and all the way up so it's hitting the post before you turn the screw tight. Check the screw each time you sew to make sure it hasn't shaken loose from embroidering.
If the presser foot lever is already lowered and
try turning it off & then back on
I've encountered the problem with my electronic sewng machine
it jams up & I turn it off & then turn it back on, that usually clear the circuit board
if it keeps doing it, I would suggest taking it to be serviced
I need the correct setting for my singer merritt
Always remember that it is the opposite of what you think, it is not the bobbin thread - it is your upper threading, you don't have it threaded right. Go to brother.com and download the manual for free and then enlarge the threading page. I am sure that you will be amazed, because I sure was. Good luck
