Apparently HP does not have a compatible HP branded software for this particular scanner. The link below will
take you to HP where they have an FAQ on using the Fax and Scan in Widows 7. If you haven't
already tried this I would suggest giving it a try. The fax and scan wizard in Win 7, while not perfect, is still
pretty functional and allows some different options depending on the material you are scanning. Since Win
7 has been out for awhile now, I would be surprised if there was a software package released at this point.

Try the old drum again, if the problem is gone, the new drum is defective.

This is a message that means you have to replace the imaging drum.

The printer needs to have the "scanner/copier" assembly replaced.

Most times the problem is the selenoid that stops the carousel in the correct position to lay down each color for each page. Sometimes the selenoid sticks so the carousel goes past the correct position and hence that color does not print. To repair you have to remove the top scanning and adf and right side covers and the selenoid is located on top on the right side above the right side gears of the carousel. When removed you have to clean the glue residue off the "L" arm. You will also have to put another pad on the "L" arm otherwise the arm becomes magnetized which will make the problem worse. I use a cut down furniture leg pad. Below is a link to the service manual.

Push the scanner release button(top front right side)
That opens the scanner assembly.(it lifts up)
Grab the drum handle and rotate the drum so that the handle is at the top
Lift drum straight up and out of the printer.
If you are installing a replacement, the animated directions are on the CD that came with the printer and I believe instructions come with the replacement drum.

Replacement of the scanner unit...As far as I know... no fix. This is a common HP problem.

Memory Supply Error 10.00.00 The printer is unable to read or write to the print

cartridge e-label, or the e-label is not on the cartridge.

Basically what is happening is the printer cannot read the small chip on the toner cartridge. The chip is located on toner cartridge as it is inserted into the printer. 1 - Make sure the toner is firmly seated into the printer. 2 - Power cycle the printer with the toner out of the printer. Install the toner back into the printer. 3 - Install another toner cartridge. 3 - Verify that the e-label connector is firmly seated in connector

You Cannot override, as the black cartridge is required for all print functions. Both B/w and Color use the black, obviously in smaller amounts in color, but it still requires it none the less. Sorry, I know you were hoping to trick the printer somehow, but with HP printers it's not an option, especially on the Laser Printer models like yours.

If you used a compatible cartridge (as I assume) the problem is with the cartridge "CHIP", very common on compatible cartridges, return the cartridge or replace the chip. The chip is on the top of the cartridge and can be remove.

Clean the adf scanner glass. This is the thinner strip of glass that is just to the left of the large original glass. Just lift up the top feeder and look to the left side of the glass. Clean this strip of glass with a soft cloth and some glass cleaner. Sometimes whatever is stuck to the glass is hard to get off so keep at it till it goes away. Another tip is if the line is in the middle of the copy then the "spot" to clean is going to be in the center of this strip from front to back. If the line is to the left side of your copy then the spot is going to be towards the front side.

Do you have the installation CD?
If so here is how to remove it..
1st Insert the disk into the CD-ROM.
2nd With the message displaying trayapp.msi is missing click the browse button
3rd - Select the cd-rom drive click/ open the setup folder, then open the trayapp folder.
4th - select the trayapp.msi file and double click on it to open it.
5th - this should return you to the install wizard and finish walking thru it.

download the software program from HP's website:

Select your operating system.
Click on Software or scroll down to software.
Download the correct software based on you region.
Then un-install the existing software program, reboot your computer.
Then install the software you just downloaded.

Based on the service manual the Error: Scanner Error 5 doesn't exist. However 52 Scanner Error exists. If the scanner doesn't function anymore the recommended solution is to replace the scanner assembly.
