how do you know its the fan?

replace the bad fan. There are 3 inside. Must replace all three (from same lot). Thats why they fail.

Good day!!!!Kindly check the power supply board..Look at the capacitors within check the visual condition if it is look like bulged,leak or burnt..If that so,try to replace it with the same type ratings and value..you can order that parts on local or online..This is the sample images:

This can be a do it yourself repair, the color wheel is causing this problem--see photo, You Tube has video instructions for replacing it and several venders on the net sell them.wheel turns at about 14,000 rpm and sooner or later bearings in the motor go south.let me know if you have questions

If its been more than 2 years since you replaced the lamp, might be time for a new one. check the lamp code on the side sticker, should be # BP96-00224J. Good luck.

Well, you definetly right...... The driver of the ballast is busted, now the ballast is to weak to maintain on that lamp. I will recommend to stop trying to turn ON tv since this could damage the bulb by blowing it from inside. I will recommend to change ballast and the old lamp should work for a little while (since I am quite sure that this bad ballast is consumming faster that lamp). Or change lamp and ballast as well that shouldnt cost you more than 200 in booth things.

Unless the panel is removed and observed we cannot confirm if the crackling sound was a capacitor or a semicondiuctor that has cracked. If you have noticed smoke with a heavy smell then the electrolytics can be faulty, all you need is to look inside to find and confirm the bursted capacitors, clean if there is leakage of electrolytics, wash the board well with petrol before the capacitor is replaced.

. There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance. The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on, if there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, and use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up; if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault. It can also be related to WEAK ELECTROLYTIC capacitors as the value can reduce in time.

If the model number posted is correct it may be a color wheel.see attached photo and remove lamp unit as wheel faces it.Are any segments broken or missing on the wheel?If wheel is shattered or not moving correct speed set will not fire lamp or work.Usually a high pitched whine or even a grinding sound is a dead give away it is the wheel.Let me know and this information is based on the model number posted SD TECH

Can you verify the model number as the HLN5065w is a DLP and doesnt have convergence control like the CRT projection TVs do.

The tv is making loud noises like humming or motor noises and tv have strange colors flashes or black and white backgrond flashes.The tv Colors wheel it is dying and not spinning the right speed of it RMP speed any more.The tv colors wheel must have be replaced to solved this problems.Have no mechanicals skills hire a tv tech. to change the tv colors wheel because u have to take out alot of mechanical parts out before u can come to the tv colors wheel itself to replace it.

Firstly, if the shards of material you saw are colored it is almost certain the color wheel has shattered; they sometimes make a high pitched or fan like sound and the set will not come on as set detects wheel not moving or moving slow.

Remove the lamp and take a good look where it faces----the color wheel faces it! See attached photo-----if even a few pieces are broken off it the set will not work.

Also on You Tube there are video instructions for replacing the wheel for most of these models.

You need to see if the wheel is shattered--compare it to the attached photo.

OK, THIS TV HAS BEEN A DOG,IT seems the light engine was going bad to start with so it is a good thing i diidnt replace :LAMP,or Balster,New Color wheel is working,But with BAD Light Engine Lamp will not longer come on either!
