It is making a humming noise

Rear projection TV's have fans that can become noisy with age also the colour wheel motor also can become noisy. Replacing the fans should be easy and cheap, the colour wheel motor not so much.

DLP TV starts to loose picture after 1 - 1/2 hours of use

This tv has a 3 board video path. Analog main pcb --->Digital main pcb --->DMD pcb. see which inputs have the problem to narrow it down. if only some inputs, suspect analog board. if everything flickers(all inputs and menu), suspect the dmd or engine. you can see the lamp shine out the back. if the lamp is flickering, suspect lamp or ballast.

Replacing ballast

Hello, You would need to test the voltage coming to the ballast which depending on the ballast should be at least 320V but nothing higher than 370V maybe even 380V? (if someone know the exact please post) CAUTION DO NOT TEST THE POWER GOING FROM BALLAST TO THE LAMP ITSELF (the ignition charge is too much ~15kV) I assume you tried a new original Philips lamp and that you replaced the lamp door cover correctly.

Is this tv bluray compatable

This model will project blu rays at a 720 resolution, since I cannot find if it had a HDMI input you might need a HDMI to DVI converter easily found at radioshack or online! This so you can get a greater picture! Hope this helps!

Sounds like your color wheel has failed. Its right about time, they don't always go bad but do fail regularly. This one uses a bp96-00250a and it costs about $95 plus shipping. You can get one straight from samsung it will come to about $105 after shipping.

Its a little tricky to get it in, and its glass so its fragile, but a mechanical person with a few screwdrivers can get it done in an hour or two. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
