Back cover removal

you can't take the back off to get to the heating element. the front comes off. Look at the bottom edge on the front there might be a couple of screws if so take them out and remove the front of the dryer the door and all should come off be careful the door switch has a couple of wires remove them b4 taking away the front then you undo the belt and in the middle of the drum there should be 3 screws take them out and pull out the drum. now you should see the heating elements. if you'd like call me and i'll try to walk you through it 417-926-0106 Jim

Dryer won't start all the time. can hand start unit.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like ur motor is going out. Had this happen to my last dryer. If this is the case it will eventually just stop. Try running it without any laundry in it. if this works, then load it and see if it still works. (poor little motor has to work a bit harder with a full load) good luck.

Could it be the heating element/coils?

From the info you've given, I'd suggest confirming whether the electrical circuit breaker arrangement for the dryer is single-pole (one wire and handle, 120V) or two-pole (2 wires and handles, 240V).  The heating element requires 240V.  Also, you mentioned a "fuse box". Hopefully you meant circuit breaker panel.  The wiring in any house old enough to have fuses instead of breakers would be a major concern unless you're into indoor barbeques in the middle of the night.

Dryer heats with smaller loads

1. unplug your machine and rach as far in the exhaust part of the dryer to see if there is an obstrucxtion
2.Take out the lint filter and make sure there are no gaping holes in the screen
3. Check the exhaust house leaving the machine or blockage, this hose should not run more than ten feet for optimal drying time.
4. its your heating element

1-1/2 old dryer keeps stopping

could be a bad motor or timer contacts. can you hear a humming sound coming from the motor if you tried starting it again? if there is none, wait for about 5 mins and try starting it again, hear what happens?..

Burning smell

Electric dryers use 220 volts or two power lines of 110 volts each. Some components in the dryer need only 110 volts; the heating element requires 220 volts. So it's possible for one part of the dryer to be fine and another part to have a short circuit. Short circuits can be caused by the heating element, the main power cord, or any other part of the internal wiring. To decide where the problem lies, unplug the dryer, then:

  • If the circuit breakers or fuses remain on and/or intact when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the dryer. Contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

  • If the circuit breaker trips or the fuse blows when the dryer is unplugged, it's likely the problem is with the house wiring, fuse box, or circuit box. Contact a qualified electrician.

Dryer Starts... Then Stops!...

Sounds as if you have a bad motor. That humming is a big give away. Unless its less than 3 years. I would replace it.

Dryer model DBXR463. Power is

If your dryer doesn't work at all, it could be because of problems with:
Power from the house Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

Door switch If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.

Thermal fuse On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing.

If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse to put the dryer back into operation. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)

Wiring Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached. Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.
