GE DRYER STARTS BUT WONT STAY ON
how long does it run for?if it doesn't start right up again and it has to sit for a while before it will start again most likely you have a bad motor.the overload on the motor pops from the motor overheating and resets when it cools down.you need to send more info and the model number off of the machine,open the door and look around the opening on the frame where you put the clothes in,and a better description on what's happening with it.

Try using the manual settings instead of automatic; the thermostats responsible for checking humidity may be faulty.
If you can get dry clothes this way, then you have an idea what has failed.

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers are in need of lubrication, or maybe your drum belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley, also sounds like your felt seal is bad and that is why your clothes are getting stuck.
Note: This method works with most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer if you have to.
Note: Some tops hinge and tilt backwards so they do not have to be removed and the electrical console with stay with the lid.
Also remove the lint filter and the screws holding the lint filter housing in place.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer by removing two screws located on either side of the top of the dryer housing and unplug the door switch.
This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.Now is a good time to replace the front felt seal on the drum if it needs to be replaced. Be sure to use a good grade of weatherproof cement on the seal to glue it to the drum, sometimes the glue is furnished with the seal.
Now is also a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear they will make a thumping type of noise.
If your drum rollers have too much wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them and are only squeeling then they probably only need lubrication.
Remove the rollers and clean the shafts that the roller rolls on, remove any hair,dust,etc from roller and shaft.
Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil, or a light lubricant like Vaseline.
Reassemble the dryer.
Plug back into your electrical receptical.
This should solve your noise problem.

Power to the dryer is 220 volts, with half of the total voltage supplied by each of two breakers. The breakers are combined into one larger breaker, but each side of the breaker connects to a different buss bar in the breaker box. What it sounds like is that one half of your breaker is tripped, and the remedy is to trip the double breaker in order to reset the half that is tripped. If tripping the breaker off and back on does not restore the operation of the dryer, trip the breaker back off, unplug the dryer, and check for any burned wires at the terminal strip where the cord connects to the dryer. Replace any defective or burned parts.

We always begin with basics:
When you checked the power supply, did you try unplugging the dryer, waiting a few minutes and plugging it back in? Be sure that you are standing in a dry area when you do this and that your hands are dry. This is called a hard reset and may reset the dryers operating system.
Have you cleaned the lint filter?
Have you recently noticed any evidence that your dryer might be getting too hot, such as melted or scorched streaks on clothing?
Has the dryer smelled too hot?
Have you noticed that clothing coming from your washer seems to wet? As if it the spin fuction might not be working properly. Items that are too wet can cause the dryer to become too hot, and stop working completely.
If none of this seems to be a problem, and you have checked the power supply, then it could be the belt that turns the drum, particularly since the dryer does make some noise. Has there been any odor of hot rubber?
If this is the case, I would call a local business who repairs appliances, since yours would no longer be under warranty (Unless you have a service agreement). I would explain the problem and all that we have done so far, and request an estimate for a service call and have it repaired if possible. The lifetime of a dryer should go well beyond 4 years.

How likely is it that the coil/element fails?

The heating element in electric dryers usually don't go bad, they might work for 10-15 yrs. When the dryer stops heating its usually due to the Thermal fuse that goes bad and cannot be reset. The age of heating elements also depends on the usage/loads/ frequency of dryer. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Dryer only runs with start
The start switch is bad, replace it. Lift the panel and remove the existing faulty start switch. Use flat-head screwdriver to pry and lift off the switch. Install the new start switch in reverse order then transfer the
wires from the old switch ti the new one. Make sure to disconnect power before attempting this repair.
