Cigarette lighter plug not working

Plugged in a portable compressor today and only clicked a few times but did not work, and then nothing seemed like I had no power anymore, but then no power to the radio either. Checked the fuses and found the 15 A radio/cig lighter fuse and it was blown. I replaced it and now the radio works but the lighter still does not, It worked fine before, but not anymore......I'm puzzled!!! please help

Hopefully nothing serious. if you can, make sure your wires did not burned or got too hot.Visually inspect them. Then, if you have a voltmeter check to see if you getiing power to it. no voltmeter? Go to your nearest auto parts store and ask for a test light. Back to the lighter, if you have power on the wires or wires leading to the back of the lighter, more than like it you lighter burned out.  No power on the wires? make sure wire did not get fryed or burned, all wires look good? check fuses again.  worst case scenario, can't find problem ? you can run another wire from your fuse box to the lighter.

Hi sounds like the cig lighter socket is loose & not making a good earth, you have to get to the back of it ( remove the dash surround) & tighten it up, but first remove the fuse.
When ever you fit anything into the cig lighter never twist it that is what causes it to become loose, good luck

Used cigarette lighter to inflate tire, left inflater on for a long time now cigarette lighter doesn't work and car doesn't always start

It sounds like you might have drained your battery! When the car is running does the Cigarette lighter produce power? It should be working while the car is running. That would also explain why the car starts sporadically. Try leaving the car on for 40 minutes. That might charge the battery enough.

More than likely overheated the wiring going to the lighter as well and burned it off. If you pull the lighter socket out you should see if it did. Simply solder it back on and be careful not to overload it again.

My cigarette lighter is not charging in my car what could it be?

You mean there seems to be no power to the vehicle's lighter unit outlet.

This lighter unit outlet is normally wired through its own fuse so check the fuse panel in the car for a blown fuse. If blown it must be replaced with a fuse of the correct amperage. The owner's manual will show you where the fuse is located.

Before you check the fuse just check the cigarette lighter outlet with another plug-in device if you have one such as a portable 12 volt tire compressor or a 12 volt plug-in auxiliary light. It could be that if you are using a charger from the outlet, the charger plug or wiring may be faulty rather than the car's power outlet itself. (These outlets don't usually give trouble unless the wiring has been messed with or the outlet itself has been damaged or abused).

If no device works from the lighter power outlet check the fuse as it may be blown.

did you use a test light this would be the primary source for an accessory not to work unless the wires to the connector on the back side of the lighter itself has come undone or it may very well be the ground to it you need to visually inspect it a mirror may be of assistance to have a look if you cannot bend under neath the dash maby you can remove the ashtray to better view it
