Flywheel teeth are worn or missing, or starter gear faulty not fully contacting your flywheel. Inspect flyweel for cracks. A cracked flywheel will more than likely make a knocking sound.

SOURCE: No Start

Hi m30sec

There is a "Kill switch" on the shifter mechanism that prevents starting the engine unless the car is in PARK. This is a safety feature sp the car won't start and suddenly take off if it were in gear. This is usually a mechanical switch. I can'r say for sure where it is on a Cavalier. What I suggest you do is call a Cavalier dealer, ask for the Service Dwpt and ask one of the men where the gear shifter kill switch is located. I have found that most dealers are real good about helping in a situation like your. You are a potential future customer.

Hope this helps Good luck Liringh Ps Please leave a rating if appropriate. Thks

1999 nissian frontier quite running mechanic says its distributor again. we spent the 600 or so dollars on a new one approx. 18 months ago whats up? is this a common nissian problem or a common me

Slow cranking will make it hard to start this is not anything to do with the distributor but either a lazy starter motor or a failing battery ,put a drop tester on the battery and see if its ok if so then use a heavy duty induction amp meter on the earth lead and see what the starter motor is drawing ,if more than 180 amps then starter is the problem

2000 Dodge Stratus SE stalling and not restarting

Sounds like a broken wire probably close to where the computer is. I would inspect the harness here and then under and around the power distribution module (fuse and relay box under the hood) This can be removed for closer inspection of the contacts underneath.

Check all sensor connections especially the crank

Pull the MAP sensor plug connector out and try to start the car, if it starts and runs rough and then wont when the map is plugged in then replace it and you are a go.
I think this is your problem or fuel pump or the fuel pump wire is corroded typically where it connects to the harness and then goes into the body.
This is somewhere to start at least.

I have an 1986 lincoln towncar i got a new fly wheel put on it and starter but for the past four months a have used three or more starters. everytime i start the car it has a loud scratching noise, couple...

the 4" dd starter had two different flanges for A/T and M/T. Your new flywheel probably doesn't match the teeth for the drive on the starter. Take the starter to a rebuilder that actually knows what they're doing-- not a parts store.

check to make sure the starter has not become loose and/or add any shims that may have come with it. Also check your wiring for loose connections.

Will not start, new battery 3 months ago. think

it could be starter or altinator
try another battery if it starts with that its your altinator
if it was your starter it would make a clicking or whiring noise when you try to start it.

Cutlass supreme wont start

It could possibly be the starter, but before you get that far make sure the Battery cables are connected very tight. If loose the car won't start or do anything. Also make sure the battery cable is grounded.
