Trying to replace the low beam headlight bulb on 2006 Explorer. i got the 2 top bolts removed. i began to try to slide the headlamp assy forward, but it would only budge about 1/8" and then wouldn't "jiggle" forward anymore. feels liks it's caught on a lower lip of some sort. is there a trick to getting it out? i was tempted to try to pry it out with a couple screwdrivers, but i didn't want to bend sheetmetal or pop plastic or scratch paint. what's a successful trick?

SOURCE: Replace headlamp assy on 1998 Jaguar XJ8L

If you just have a broken lense, you can pop off the old unit with a largish screw driver.
open the bonnet,un plug the light...the lamp is clipped on in 4 places, put your screw driver behind the bowl part of the lamp and prize forwards not too hard tho and the light should pop off, then the new one, offer it up to the mounting with the 4 balls on then just give it a tap with your hand not too hard so ya dont break it....plug it in...job done !!

How to replace Head light & running light switch

remove the 4 bolts that hold the headlight assembly into the chassis frame.
For example, to remove the left front headlight;
It takes a 9006 low beam bulb, OEM is 51 watts If you buy a halogen upgrade, it will be a 55 watt bulb I don't know if you can put a super xenon bulb in there, it may harm the harness, I don't know so don't rely on me for that...
Lift the hood Get a socket head wrench and some SAE (standard) sockets. Find the socket that fits the bolt head just above the headlight. I think it is a 3/8's or slightly larger.
There are 4 bolts screwed through the frame into the top of the headlamp assembly. The bolts on each end of the headlight are longer and go all the way through the assembly to align it properly.
Lay each bolt out, on the ground in the order you removed them. The middle two bolts are short, maybe 1 " and the ends are closer to 3.5" long.
Once the bolts are out, slide the headlight assembly forward. There are two bulbs, a high and low beam. The low beam bulb is to the outside of the car, or drivers side on the left, farthest to the passenger side on the right.
Most of the time the low beam will burn out since it's used 90% of the time.
The bulb has a right angle fitting with a wiring harness attached. With your hand or a channel lock pair of pliers, gradually rotate the light bulb base counter clockwise until the unit is loose in the socket holder.
Disconnect the bulb from the wiring harness and replace it with the new bulb.
Reverse the process and turn on the headlights to check you have the bulb harness properly attached before finishing up the reassembly of the 4 bolts.
Your bulb alignment with the ground should not have changed from this work. Have fun...not difficult. Takes about 10 minutes per bulb.

Replace headlight

Instructions to change a headlight bulb on a chevy colorado or a GMC canyon : Make sure you have plenty of time , if you rush you will have problems so go slow and do it right the first time. > disconnect the parking light connections on the top of the parking lights . > carefully remove the grill by sliding the four plastic tabs on the top of grill while gently pulling , then just pull the grill off being carefull not to pull to hard . there are two snap connectors behind the parking lamps and three more along the bottom of the grill. > with a 10mm socket remove the two bolts that secure the headlights. slide the headlights forward . > this will give you enough room to change the bulb. I removed the connection first. I also put a clean sock on one hand to help handle the bulb without touching the new bulb. trust me on the sock, it helps. > line up the bulb prongs and rotate clockwise until you feel it snap. inspect the new bulb to insure it is properly installed and all three prongs on the bulb are now hidden. double check the bulb though the lens to made sure it is not cocked. >when reinstalling the headlight take a good look first to notice the two tabs on the bottom of the light . the tabs go in first then hold the light up and tight while you reinstall the two 10mm bolts. double check this to make sure both tabs are in . do not overtighten the bolts. check the lights . > use a flashlight to help align the grill push connectors snap in the bottom of the grill first then behind the parking lights then finally snap the four connectors along the top of the grill. > Thats it !!! take your time and you will have no problem. take care , Dave Dave's method might work but I just changed the low beam headlamp bulb on my 2006 Colorado in less than one minute with no tools needed. A simple 1/3 turn of the bulb socket from the back, (to the side of the radiator) and the bulb was out in my hand. Detailed directions came with the 9006 GE Bulb. Ron

Headlight is out on pass. side. Is the bulb replaced by removing the 2 phillips screws?

No, there are three 10mm bolts which secure the headlamp assy in place. remove them, then remove the assy, then unplug connectors. There are two caps (one for high beam and one for low beam). Once caps are removed, you will see the bulb plugs/connectors and the retaining clip - note the bulbs have 'slots' (or 'keys') where they fit into their sockets.

2006 Trailblazer Headlight Replacement

There are not two rods, there are two clips one under fender weild and one right above the light on top of the cover. Pull up on these two clips and pull the light forward a couple of inches and remove the dust cover. You have to take the air filter cover off to be able to reach in and replace the light. It took me about 10 min to figure these out but hope it helps out.
