I wouldn't. A diode is like a one way valve and only allows current to run in one direction. On a vehicle that is important.

67sunbeam, this is a rather complex system. The actual fuel pump, relay is located in the central conjunction box which is located behind the left kick panel. IT IS NON SERVACEABLE according to Ford. There is an inertia switch inside the left rear cab corner near the bottom. Just push it into the relay, if it was tripped, it will click. There is a fuseable link in the engine compartment next to the battery on the engine side. Aside from that, the fuel pump it self could have connection problems and more. Beyond the simple things, unless you fix cars for a living, it may cost you more to fix it you self than to bring it to a pro.

Could be the gauge also , which means the instrument cluster would have to be repaced . Rather then playing around with the coolant temp sensor an wiring diagrams , have it checked for code's . Your vehicle has a cylinder head temp sensor .(CHT)
Principles of Operation
The Expedition and Navigator instrument clusters are configurable, hybrid electronic clusters (HEC) that contain a microprocessor, gauges, indicator lamps, and internal circuitry. The instrument cluster is non-repairable at the dealership level with the exception of the warning indicator bulbs on the Expedition only and the instrument cluster lens on both the Expedition and Navigator clusters. The instrument cluster utilizes hardwired circuitry, the standard corporate protocol (SCP), and universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART)-based protocol (UBP) communication networks. Communication using the SCP network transmits and receives data between the instrument cluster, the powertrain control module (PCM), and the anti-lock brake system/traction control/integrated vehicle dynamics (ABS/TC/IVD) module. Communication using the UBP network utilizes data transmitted and received by the instrument cluster and the four-wheel drive control module, power liftgate module (Navigator only), parking aid module, air suspension module, vehicle security module, driver seat module and the electronic air temperature control (EATC). For additional information regarding the SCP and UBP communication networks, refer to Section 418-00 .
It is very important to understand:
  • where the input originates from.
  • all the information necessary in order for a feature to operate.
  • which module(s) receive(s) the input or command message.
  • Does the module which received the input control the output of the feature, or does it output a message over the SCP or UBP network to another module?
  • which module controls the output of the feature.
  • Temperature Gauge
The PCM receives the engine coolant temperature status through hardwired circuitry to the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. The instrument cluster receives the engine coolant temperature data from the PCM through the SCP communication network. The instrument cluster microprocessor monitors the engine coolant temperature data received from the PCM and commands the temperature gauge indication with a corresponding movement of the pointer.
  • Incorrect temperature gauge indication
  • Circuitry.
  • Cylinder head temperature sensor.
  • Powertrain control module (PCM).
  • Instrument cluster.
  • Go To Pinpoint Test E .

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop . You have no idea of the electronic's involved here .

PINPOINT TEST E: INCORRECT TEMPERATURE GAUGE INDICATION Test Step Result / Action to Take E1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM BOTH CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SELF-TESTS
  • Use the recorded instrument cluster DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
  • Are any instrument cluster DTCs recorded?
Yes
If instrument cluster DTC U1073 is retrieved, REFER to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual to continue diagnosis.

For all other instrument cluster DTCs REFER to the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.

No
GO to E2 . E2 CARRY OUT THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE DIAGNOSTIC TOOL
  • Connect the diagnostic tool.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Instrument Cluster Active Command.
  • Select the instrument cluster engine coolant active command.
  • Trigger the engine coolant active command. Scroll in three increments 0%, 50% and 100%.
  • Did the temperature gauge start at cold when at 0%, move to half at 50% and full hot at 100%?
Yes
REFER to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual to continue diagnosis.

No
GO to E3 . E3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
  • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Instrument Cluster in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

The direction of the air flow (dash/defrost/floor, etc) is controlled by vacuum going to the switch. There may be a vac line that didn't get connected or was damaged when they put the replacement engine in it. Check the lines on the firewall to make sure nothing is loose.

Could be either one or both get the battery charged if you have another vehicle hook up cables and see if it takes a charge for about 30 min DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE FOR ANY REASON JUST PRESS YOUR REMOTE TO SHUT OFF THE ALARM SO IT DOESN'T GO INTO THEFT MODE AND PREVENT STARTING WHEN I WANT YOU TO START IT OK THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW WHAT I'M TELLING YOU OTHERWISE YOU WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY FROM CRANKING IN THEFT MODE ///////NEXT AFTER THE 30- 45 MINUTES OF CHARGING THERE SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT POWER TO START AND RUN THE ENGINE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BATTERY HAS DISTILLED WATER IN IT IF YOU HAVE CAPS? ON IT BEFORE YOU START THE CHARGING PROCESS NOW FOR A SECOND OR 2 HONK THE HORN AND SEE IF YOU HAVE HEADLIGHTS A LOUD HORN AND STRONG LIGHTS WILL SHOW A CHARGE IF YOU HAVE A VOLT METER CHECK FOR VOLTAGE BETWEEN 12.5 TO 13.5 VOLTS IF YOU HAVE THE VOLTS THATS GOOD NOW START THE ENGINE IF THE BATTERY LIGHT IS ON IN THE DASH THE ALTERNATOR MAYBE BAD CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AGAIN WITH THE METER IT SHOULD BE 14.4 IF YOU DON'T HAVE A VOLT METER QUICKLY DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING IF IT DIES THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD THE MOTOR SHOULD KEEP RUNNING OFF THE ALTERNATOR POWER THAT IT IS GENERATING SO GOOD LUCK I'M SORRY IF I LISTED THINGS OUT OF ORDER I'M A TAXI MECHANIC IN NYC WITH 50 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING FOR 16 HOURS TRYING TO GET CARS RUNNING FROM VERY HEAVY RAIN HERE TODAY THE DRIVERS AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO SLOW DOWN WHEN GOING THROUGH FLOODED ROADS AND HUGE PUDDLES AND I'M BY MYSELF THE OTHER 2 GUYS ARE OUT WITH THE SUPER BOWL FLU SO I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU ON MY LUNCH BREAK AND IN BETWEEN VEHICLES SO PLEASE READ EVERYTHING FIRST PUT DISTILLED WATER IN THE BATTERY FIRST IF YOU CAN OTHERWISE CHARGE IT AND DO THE REST DESCRIBED OK GOOD LUCK STEPHEN

The idle is controlled by what is called IAC (idle air control motor). This motor has a little cone shape plunger and it moves onto and off of a seat by doing this it controls the idle by controlling a vacuum leak. When close no vacuum and low idle, when open it causes a vacuum leak and the idle goes up. I’m going to have you something easy to help me figure out what’s causing the problem. I need you to remove the hose to the throttle body to expose the plate. This plate controls the air going into the engine off idle. If your hand I want you to push open the plate and run your finger around we’re the plate seats if it is black I want you to put carb cleaner, brake cleaner intake cleaner or something like that on a rag and clean the whole area all the way around and while you are doing this look for a slot or hole that will be in front of the plate that’s the side closes to you. That is going to be were the idle air control motor gets it air from. What I want you to do is spray the cleaner in that opening while the truck is running a little at a time because you don’t want to flood the engine and you don’t want it to idle to high this will help to clean the carbon off the plunger and the seat of the IAC ok. One thing to think about is that if the check engine light is not on now this cause it to come on. By removing the hose off the throttle body it will effect other sensors try to leave them plugged in because it takes two faults to trigger the light. That means if you start your truck one time and clean the IAC. As long as you put it back together before you start it again the light will stay off. But if you unplug a sensor and turn the key on this will cause a hard fault meaning the ECM (Engine Control Module) see a missing sensor. But if you do cause the light come on it will reset itself after the fault disappears or you can go to autozone and get them to clear the codes speaking of witch you should have them check for any codes first. Just tell them that you got some intake cleaner from them and the throttle baby service you did cause your check engine light to come on. They should clear it. Let me know how it runs after you finish there’s a good chance it may fix your problem if not it will help us to narrow down the problem. I will look the next few days for a reply. Good luck

ok............when you change plugs the cmptr needs to relearn firing order. it takes 3-5 times/restarts before it relearns. I went through the exact same thing with my expedition. a day or two later she purred like a kitten. secondly if you are having acceleration problems you may be looking at a bad catalytic converter. lastly......check your air filter, take it out and see how it runs without filter. that was also an issue I had when it was rough running. good luck
