Have changed yellow ink cartridge, taking chip from an empty canon cartridge and fixing it to replacement cartridge. now getting U043 message - ink tank cannot be recognised. Thought maybe new cartridge was faulty so placed chip onto another new cartridge and exactly the same message shows. Help please.
Unreccognized black ink tank. Jiggling & re-istalling worked for a week or two - now nothing works. I read that cleaning the ink-tank tray of leaked ink would help - there was leaked ink, I cleanedit carefully, no difference - as always, the ink tank light comes on in the "maintenance" position, but is "not recognized" when I try to use the printer. Mine is a Pixma MP700, by the way.

I am using Cartridge World cartridges, but they have always worked just fine in the past. I have bought a complete set of REAL CANON cartridges, but I'm wondering why the ones that have been working all along are not working now.I am using Cartridge World cartridges, but they have always worked just fine in the past. Sometimes the ink cartridges go bad before they run out of ink. I've had this problem and the vendor I get my ink from let me trade it for a new one. Try changing the ink cartridge and see if that fixes it like it did on mine.
You need both. One is pigment and the other is dye. One is used for photographs and the other for non-photographs - but it's the printer that decides which one to use.
All Canon printers (to my knowledge) will stop working if any one ink cartridge is empty. This is to prevent damage to the print nozzles. The ink itself is the cooling medium for the hot nozzles.
I have this Canon MP600 using unchipped cartridges. Once you have changed the chip over onto the catridge and inseted it should stop flashing which indicates the cartridge is located. The printer will not tell you the level of ink until you run out. When changing the chip over from original cartridge onto unchipped ensure it is not damaged and fitting properly other wise the error sign will show. The printer should print without any problems, i know you can not disable the ink monitoring system. Hope this is some help Mr T
You probably cant. Try replacing the chip with one from an old empty cartridge of the same colour (using superglue or something), as the unrecognized chip is faulty and usually cant be fixed, and you should throw it away as soon as you take it off to avoid confusion. Now try to convince your local ink refill shop to reset the chip for you.maybe tell them your nephew bit the old chip off and ate it.
OR try the web to purchase a "chip resetter" device.
I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.
After the printer decides the cartridge is empty it will start giving
you warnings. Eventually it will give you a message to press the
Stop/Reset switch for approx. 5 seconds to disable ink level monitoring
on the empty cartridge. Ink level monitoring will be re enabled if a
new OEM Canon cartridge is installed. There is no way to reset the chip
on the cartridge but you can replace for new ink
Canon should offer a product recall on all printers affected by this common U150 problem. I wonder though if they are even aware of it, or care. There are no forums (as far as I can see) on the Canon web site. Maybe they're clueless, and that's bad. Maybe they're NOT clueless and don't care, and that's bad too.
I had the u043 problem on the blue cartridge on my mp830.
I was using non-original replacement inks but re-using the chips from the originals - replacing the blue cartridge would cause it randomly work but i then noticed the chip holder was not centred so I realigned it and hey presto! the problem was solved first time.
