The print head is probably blocked, its no good using the head cleaning option on the printer, you'll just waste ink.

There are several head cleaning solutions, fairly cheap on ebay.

On my HP Officejet 4215, my black cartridge doesn't print. The cartridge is nearly full.

If you haven't used the black print option, as in to print without using the color cartridges, then the black print head may be 'gummed up'.
You can try to clean the print head using the 'clean' function, which may work.
You can also try to get the print head to work by using ammonia and hot water. If the cartridge has its own print head, you can use some hot water on a paper towel and set the print head onto the soaked towel for a few minutes. After it has sat for a while, gently dab it dry with another paper towel, and try to use it. If it works, you're done. If not, you can use ammonia to try to clean the print head using the same tactics as using water. Try water first, then ammonia.
If the print head is fixed in place, you have to remove the whole assembly from the printer, and then try to clean the print head using the same method.

The black is fuzzy and head cleaning isn't solving the problem.

You will need to replace that print head. You can try dipping just the surface of the print head in luke warm water over night and then try cleaning it again... last resort before replacing it.

It doesn't print in black but prints in color

Hi, To ensure this is only an issue with the black, I recommend printing off a nozzle check. This will show you if this problem is effecting any of the other colours.
To print a nozzle please refer to chapter 12 page 115 of the manual,
If colours are missing I recommend cleaning the print head. You have two options for cleaning the print head a normal clean and a deep clean, start by doing a normal clean if required try doing a deep clean.

have you recently had a paper jam. somtimes pieces of paper can become trapped under the print head which restricts the printing. if there is and its been there for a while the print head may need to be wiped/cleaned( a bit tricky) then a couple more print head cleans.

Wont print black but colors are fine,

Clean heads, clean heads, clean heads, etc. Then do the test print to see if the heads are open. I had similar problem with an Epson, had to clean the heads often, finally got to where the heads wouldn't clean so threw it away and bought another one (HP this time, the heads are included in the ink carts, haven't had to clean the heads at all.)

Black ink not working

Your black ink printer head might be blocked by dried materials. Try to open your printers maintenance software and execute head cleaning procedures. Try to print a test page after every head cleaning or you may run print head diagnostics. If the black ink still doesn't print, try to use another black ink cartridge and compare with initial results.
