Hello! As the manual of this device says Check the print cartridge to make sure you have properly removed its packaging. Being careful not to touch the gold-colored contacts or ink nozzles, make sure you have gently pulled the pink tab to remove the plastic tape. Here is the link to a manual of this device. there is dirt or paper covering the sensor inside, you should be able to easily take out once of the long tubes to clear this.

it says that it is an ink jet printer. did you set the paper controls to the right paper you are using. is the paper HP paper some of the papers don't work with the HP printers they may be to smooth and the rollers can't get the paper into where it needs to be for the sensors to say that there is paper present it has to hit the sensor within a specified time to work correctly.

Try reinstalling the printer drivers and software and plug connecting to the pc too
If problem still persist
There may be a problem in the cartridges holder
Then you have to connect with the customer care of the printer.
Or have to buy new printer easily and cheap at ebay

Go to HP.com.. select Support from the main screen. It will ask you to enter the electronic device you have, and then the model number, etc. Then you will have a list of options including firmware/driver updates including instructions on how to update your printer. You can also try to do it from Google on search entering 'HP Printer 4215 firmware update'. I would not trust any driver update that does not come directly from HP.

Can you confirm that it's an HP OfficeJet 4215 printer? What OS and type of device (computer, phone, Mac, PC, Windows version, ...) are you trying to install it on? How are you trying to install the printer? How are you connecting the printer to your computer? (USB, network, Bluetooth, Ethernet, or ?) Have you tried to install it, and if so, what happened? A "Phone Off Hook" message is not an error. It simply indicates that a telephone receiver isoff the hook(the handset is lifted) and the telephone line is open. This message would be expected in the following situations:

• A modem on the phone line is accessing the Internet.
• A phone connected to the HP fax (or the same phone line) is using the line, or the handset has been lifted.
• A credit card machine is using the phone line.
• Another electronic device is using the phone line.
• The Start Fax button was pressed with no telephone number entered. Pressing Stop or Cancel should return the display to a ready state.

When the other device is no longer using the phone line, the display should revert to the normal message. Lets try the following, Disconnect the phone cable from the back of the HP product and the message should clear. If the message does not clear, unplug the power cable from the back of the unit, wait 15 seconds, and then plug in the power cable. if issue still exists try the followign Disconnect the phone cable from the HP product and connect it to a single line phone. Pick up the handset and listen for a dial tone. If no dial tone is present, replace the phone cable. If a dial tone is still not present, a problem exists with the phone system. This means its not a true HP cartridge.... All HP Printers have this problem. It really means that you have to go and buy true HP cartridge's . Sorry, but i hope this helps.

The problem is with Windows Vista...it does not recognize the scan button when you touch it on the scanner. There are two ways around this:
Go to Programs / Windows Fax & Scan / Click new scan / click file and then click scan
OR
Go to Accessories / Paint / Cick File /click from scanner or camera / click scan

When downloading drivers from HP's website it is important to remember one thing!You MUST turn off any anti-virus software that you have on your PC/Laptop. If you don't they will not be downloaded correctly.If you don't the drivers will not be downloaded correctly and you will continue to have issues.
