Where is the battery and clip on the hp color inkjet cp 1700 printer? My C,M, and Y cartridges are expired by approx -18 months. I just opened them. Please help.
"OK everybody, The simple way to fix this problem is to reset the printer. All of the newer printers have a battery inside. I just slipped a piece of plastic between the battery and the clip and left it there for about five minutes. Removed the plastic and presto. The internal record keeping info is reset and I am printing again. I did this on two HP CP1700's and it worked fine."

Make sure that the Cartridges are properly installed. And the copper contacts on the printer and on the Ink Cartridge are clean.
Try replacing them. Make sure that the cartridges are not Refilled, Remanufactured and Expired.
Check for expiration date mentioned on the back of the printer.
If you still face the issue, replace the cartridges, if the issue resolves. Contact HP to replace the faulty cartridges. If not, then the issue is with the Printer's hardware.
One possible problem is that the new cartridge has an expired date. According to the manuel, the printer cannot use an expired cartridge. Check the date on the cartridge. Good luck. I am hoping to get a refund from Staples because I bought an expired cartridge.
Remove all the cartridges from the printer and check for expiration date on the cartridges, if the cartridges are expired, you need to replace them with HP genuine, use of refilled one's cause many issues. The cartridge that is compatible with this printer is HP 14 black and HP 14 tricolor.
To align the printheads at any other time:
Press Menu .
Press 7 , then 3 . (For the HP Officejet D 125xi press 3 , then 3 again)A page prints to confirm printhead alignment.
A quick reset without buying a new cartridge is to use a discarded empty cartridge in the printer to reset the printer and then reinsert the cartridge you have now.
The digital readout on the CP1700 is a problem. I have replaced mine now 4 times at a cost of $90 each time, and I'm going to have to do it again or get the new 2800. Just wonder if the 2800 is going to have the same defect.
I have the identical problem with an HP Business Inkjet 1100.
Once cartridges were past date, the printer would no longer print from Windows XP. It would however work perfectly from Linux.
I
did not find an ini file as mentioned in other posts, and I really did
not want to open the printer as it worked fine in Linux.
The following fixed the problem:
1) Click on Start button, run 2) Type in regedit, enter 3) Navigate to HKLM/software/Hewlett-Packard/HP Printers/HPWH Toolbox/Common 4) In the right panel, right click on Ink, pick modify 5) Change 0100 to 0000 6) Save and reboot
The battery is accessed by opening top then can be seen on extreme left
at front. No need to take it out, slip a strip of plastic like an old
credit card under the clip on top of battery to insulate it. Then do a soft reset (# and 6 and power
down) with the battery insulated. Power up -
Power down, remove insulator power up. Eureka!
