Husqvarna YTH 2448 mower PTO switch is getting hot and melting the plastic internal parts. Any ideas on what is causing the overload? The mower deck will shut off when the switch melts and the push/pull button will pull out of the housing. wires do not appear to be getting hot and clutch will pull in everytime until switch gets hot.

Elertric blade drive clutches are a real pain when they go wrong It sounds like a electrical short is causing the wires inside the switch to heat up beyond the safe melting point thereafter five mins the circuit gets between the fault gets broken as the switch fails the blades stop and the switch melts a bad eaRth corroded may cause this check the deck safety switches are not exposed e.g. they been damaged and the decks metal is shorting them out a wire has been stripped of protective covering and is touching some metal shorting out something that vital to the blade controls operation the switch is getting a overload and subsequently melting your might need an lawnmower engineer to diagnose to the fault fully and repair
I used to see this on the Kawaski engine machines with an electric clutch, they put a diode between the two clutch wires so as so as to stop any electrical feed back throught the clutch, when the machine is running without the clutch engaged it can turn into a generator.
The problem with an electric cluch is that when the engine is running without the clutch engaged the clutch can turn into a dynamo which then passes power back up to the switch, most machines will have a diode close to the clutch in the wireing to stop the current flowing back to the switch, so i guess the diode is bad on your machine and power is flowing back to the switch and melting it,
The PTO switch has failed. There is an internal spring and plastic parts in toggle switches that keep them in the actuated position. It's not practical to take the switch apart to fix it, but replacement switches are readily available - probably $12 - $20. It's a good idea to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before you do any electrical work. Be sure to put the wires on the corresponding terminals of the new switch.

I have a Husqvarna 2448 I just rebuilt the engine someone before changed the motor the four wires 2 go to charging like the other 2 go it discharges when you kick the pto in I put a new clutch on it the 4 wires are my problem
try unplugging the pto, start the mower, then engage the pto switch. If the fuse still blows trouble is somewhere in the mowers wiring if not the ploblem lies in the pto. hope this helps
