The ink system failure message has a chance to be fixed or it may be a permanent issue. It
can be pointing toward a firmware failure in the printer and if that is the case the
following steps should fix it.
Press and hold the “*” key. Press the “#” key and release both keys.
Display should say “Enter Special Key Combo”
Press and release in sequence the "1”, “2” and “3” buttons.
Display should say “Support” and display the FW rev (something like R0631R)
Mine reads R0631M
. Press and release the right arrow button until the display says “System Configuration
Menu”.
Press and release the “OK” button.
Display should say “Hardware failure status”. If not there already, Arrow Key over to
“Hardware failure status”,
Press and release the “OK” button.
Display should say “Hardware failure status: Clear. Press OK to clear”.
Press and release the “OK” Button. Message changes to “Hardware failure status Cleared.
Press Cancel to continue”.
Press and release the “CANCEL” button as many times as necessary, so that, either the
“Welcome to Photosmart Express” screen appears, or, the “Ink System Failure” screen appears.
PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PRINT AT THIS STAGE.
Using the Power Button, turn the unit OFF and unplug the power cable from back of the
printer and wall outlet.
Wait 30 seconds for the power to get discharged and then plug the power cable into the wall
outlet first and then into the back of the printer.
Turn the unit on. The printer may display message “USE POWER BUTTON TO SHUTDOWN THE PRINTER”
followed by “PRESS OK TO CONTINUE”. Press OK. The Printer will start the “ONE TIME INK
INITIALIZATION PROCESS”. Allow this process to complete and do not interrupt. Once the
initialization process is complete, the printer will print out a Diagnostic Page.
Good Luck!

Print cartridges would not move to center when opening lid so that ink could be replaced

There could be a paper jam in the printer head clearning system. If the head cleaning system is not completing the cleaning motion cycle the carriage will not move the catridge to the centre.

Cartridge error j6450

If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 74, 75, 74XL, or 75XL ink cartridge refuses to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance.
These types of severe cartridge errors (i.e. refer to documentation / incompatible cartridges, print cartridge(s) problem, etc.) typically indicate the internal micro electronics of the HP 74/75 cartridge are damaged. The cartridges electrical wire runs at rear and lower side of the ink cartridge, are very delicate and are somewhat susceptible to ink attack over time, which can lead to premature failures. In addition, the older the cartridge the higher the chance of an internal micro electronics failure.
I suggest you first run a Tap 41 diagnostic test to check cartridges electrical health (this is a special forced service test; refer to Inkjet411 videos so you understand how to activate and read the HP OJ printer diagnostics print out).

Ink Cartridge apears to be missing or damaged

Just to begin with, please tell me you are using a factory new HP cartridge and not some knock-off cartridge or even worse, a re-filled cartridge.

Either the third party cartridge or a re-filled cartridge are the most, by far, reason for the printer reporting a cartridge failure.

If you are using a factory new cartridge, then you need to contact the store that sold you the cartridge and ask for a warranty replacement on the new cartridge becuse it was an "out-of-box" failure.

Used refilled cartridges in HP All-in-One J5750. Even w/ a new, HP cartridge, it errors out too: "Cartridge on left (color) must be replaced." Now the printer doesn't work w/ any cartridges - new or...

Try cleaning with a wet towel the contacts in your printer
probably have ink on contacts and nan not read your cartridges
it is the metal pins ,the point that cartridges are getting in

Printer will not print ink on paper. new ink

If you just bought them then you should take it back and exchange it or if you filled them yourself read on below.

Most modern cartridges have an ink level chip built on to them.
Should the level drop below 25% then most of these chips lock up and will not reset. Cheaper replacement cartridges are quite prone to this chip failing completely rendering even a new cartridge effectivley useless

Re-filling them will have no effect

If you are lucky you should be able to find either a chip resetter around on the internet or maybe even local

OR

Even better empty cartridges that never need to be reset.

The second option is my preference
I realise these are not for your specific printer but there are others listed on both those sites as well

There is ink in the cartridge but the printer is saying that there is no ink

I don't think the printer actually measures the ink level, but rather count how much the cartridge has been used. This means that sometimes, even though the cartridge is not completely empty, the printer thinks it is. If this is the case, I would just buy a new cartridge.
If it is a completely new cartridge, the problem is different. Then I would return it to the store for a replacement or refund.

Ink system failure

HP Photosmart C7180 will not accept new '02' yellow ink cartridge and repeatedly states 'printer does not have enough ink to ensure printer health. The empty ink cartridge must be replaced to resume.' This is the 2nd HP '02'yellow I've bought and it continues to say the same.

Canon faxphone B640

The ink cartridge holder was kind of wiggly, so I put a wedge in the side to push the contacts together more. It worked.
