The cyan head does not print. We have done the auto and manual head clean to no avail several times. We've even changed out the ink cartridge. Even the epson ink carts do not work.

You need to clean the head manually with isopropyl alcohol , cotton and cleaning solution. If this does not work you will need to change the head because is defective.
Do a test print... assuming you have done multiple print head cleans... if it fails to print ANY cyan, I'd guess the print head is dead... although to be honest im not an expert with this hp printer. if that is the case, it probably isnt worth repairing. If it does print some cyan, just missing, you may be able to find info, sorry, I cant help you there, on accessing the service or maintenance mode and doing a higher level clean, if your printer supports that. As a last option, disassembly and soaking the bottom of the print head in cleaning solution /water... overnight, without getting ANY water on any contacts, then re running print cleans.
good luck
in my exp, again, not with this printer, mind you, if a print head fails to print ANY ink for a given colour, the print head is usually faulty.
First do not use cartrigde compatible or refill because you clogged the print head,is verry sensitive. If you try to clean the print head and nothing you need to replace the print head is the only solution, after replace the print head you print all the colors.
NOTE!!! After you replace the print head use only original cartridge brother !!!!
Inkjet
printers do not like being left unused. The print head may be blocked. Try
several deep cleaning of the print head to see if it can clear the blocked print
nozzles. If none of this works then the print head needs to be replaced.
A new cartridge will not solve this problem. NOTE the print head is not a cheap item, you may consider putting the money
towards a new and better printer.
The print head is clogged.Try unclogging manually.Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 mins then turn the print head around with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 mins. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 mins and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If this not help you need to replace the print head. It's part number is QY6-0049.
