HP 1200 series all-in-one. Warned ink level low and reinstalled a new cartridge identical to the used one (Tesco brand). Will not work and 'check cartridge' light flashes and error message on PC refers to cartridge problem. Another possibly unrelated snag is that the paper display light shows empty even tho' paper tray loaded

Reset ink cartridge

Unfortunately you can't....

The ink level indicator cannot be manually re-set in the newer HP, Lexmark or Dell integrated ink cartridges, thus making it not usable. The OEMs all leverage 'fusible links' in the nozzle plate (internal to base of ink cartridge) which physically blows the resistors as the original ink is consumed...thus resetting the ink cartridge's ink level monitoring capability is simply not possible. The ink tracking feature is only available with a brand new ink cartridge.

However, losing this feature is not necessarily significant, because the ink level indicator usually has 20%-30% ink remaining when it shows "low on ink". Therefore, the warning has limited value, because customers who prematurely replace their cartridges when they see the "low ink" message are wasting a lot of residual ink.

Refer to any of the following videos which cover this 'low ink' subject in detail:
http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=396 (HP 60/61 Low Ink)

Hp laser jet 1200 catrige error

Remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and connect the Printer to be detected and installed. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken . It is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the command , can be an issue with ink drying , can
also be poor ink cartridge contacts

I am unable to print on my HP Officejet Pro 8500. i have recently replaced the 940 black cartridge and since then have been unable to print. i notice there are print cartridges in the main body as well...

you can check the ink level from following steps Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Figure 1: Non-HP ink iconc00841629.jpg NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display. Figure 2: Low ink level iconc00841630.jpg When the Empty Ink message appears on the color graphics display, the indicated ink cartridge is out of ink. Replace the indicated ink cartridge. Method two: Check ink levels from the Windows computer The estimated amount of ink remaining in the ink cartridges can be checked from the computer. See the on-screen HP Director Help for information on checking the ink levels from the Printer
  1. Open the printer Toolbox. To do so, do one of the following:
    • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
    • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
    The Toolbox opens.
  2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.
Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu
  1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
  2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

If the ink level is low and the cartridge is new please contact the dealer from whom you got the cartridge and if it shows that the ink level is good enough please comment so that i can give you another step to perform

Does not print in color although we have a new color cartridge in there and the print preview shows that it should be in color

Ink may be new, but their nozzles may be blocked; depending on manner of storage. To be sure apply a folded tissue paper to the ink nuzzle and press firmly. If the tissue comes off well blotted with ink it means you still have a good amount of ink in it and the nozzle is not blocked. If not blotted or scantily blotted, it means ink is really low or nuzzle is blocked. To be very sure of this, place nuzzle in a plate/saucer with a bit water so that the nuzzle is soaked. Leave for about 10 minutes. Then apply the tissue again. If still not well blotted it means ink is really low or empty. If new you should return it for a replacement. In the case of blocked nozzles, the procedure may be repeated over to get results.

Ink level didn't change

s.gif Deskjet 5100 series
  1. Click Start or c01319360.gif , click All Programs , click Hewlett-Packard , and then click Printer Assistant .
  2. Click Utilities .
  3. Click View ink levels .
    • If a cartridge is low on ink, discontinue these steps, replace the cartridge, and then try printing again.
    • If the cartridges contain a sufficient amount of ink, continue to the next step.
  4. Click Printer Maintenance .
  5. Click Clean Cartridges .
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions.
ISSUE: After installing a new HP Inkjet print cartridge, the ink level indicator remains at the previous level. SOLUTION: Continue to print and ignore the ink level indicator. The print cartridge is full of ink, it just is not being measured accurately.

How to reset the ink level for a HP 60 ink cartridge? I have just refilled a HP 60 black ink cartridge but can not find anything on how to reset the ink level. I would do the "3 ink cartridge" trick but I...

You cannot reset the ink level indicator for the HP 60 ink cartridge. It shouldn't matter anyway because the level is only estimated for "management purposes only" (see user manual) meaning to let you know when it's near time to order a new cartidge. I have tried cycling through 3 different cartridges to reset the ink level for the one I refilled but it didn't work. Refill and just ignore the ink level indicator. Also, it's a good idea to clean the print heads with the solvent in the refill kit before refilling to remove old ink and imrpove print quality.

Shouldn't worry about it. They are only a rough guide. The only time to worry about it is when the printer stops working and it has told you it's run out of ink! Thank you.......
