For outgoing fax on okifax 5650 the machine dials the number and clicks off. The fax number called is a good number. The machine recognizes incoming fax so the line is correctly attached.

SOURCE: Receiving and sending faxes

if the fax is connected to the same line and you have a phone connected to the fax you need to make sure you connect the line from the socket at wall to the correct socket on the fax you can check this by looking at the point the line is connected on fax there should be two connectors one says line and one says tel.. the line in goes to the line socket and your telephone goes into the tel socket.. if you have them the other way round it cant connect properly..on the front display panel make sure you have it set to the auto setting or tel fax mode for receive.. if you have it to auto it will check the incoming call if it is a fax it will send it through if not it will ring till you answer.. if set to tel/fax mode when it rings you will have to answer the phone and manually press start if you hear it is a fax.. Good luck A

All our incoming faxes are faded although there is sufficient toner. The heads have also been cleaned and the machine has been cleaned electronically.

Your saying the heads have been cleaned but that points towards an inkjet MFP, if it is a laser MFP, take the toner/drum assy out and shake it hard.. the toner may have settled in storage and may be causing the problems.

OKIFAX 4580 - Comms error

Hi just a note to say first theing to check is that the phone line is connected at both ends to correct sockets and that the connector to teh fax unit is connected to the line socket and not the phone socket as this is the main cause of line errors.. Good luck you could also check to see of you need to dial 0 or 9 first before you dial your number as you ma y be on an exchange line.. also check the fax settings to see if you have set the line type correctly either pulse or tbx..

Outgoing Fax on my HP Officejet 6210 All-In-One

Faxing problem

1) Plug a single line wired (not cordless) phone in to the exact same phone jack as the fax machine and dial one of the fax numbers you are trying to dial out to using the exact same digits. Does the call complete Y/N? do you hear a fax tone Y/N?
>>>>If either answer is "No" you have an invalid phone number. If both answers are "Yes" proceed to step 2.

2) When you off hook do you hear a "stutter" dial tone? Y/N?
>>>>>"Yes" This is your phone company telling you that you have unlistened voicemail messages in your mailbox. Dial in to your voice mail and clear your messages. "No" go to step 3.

3) 2 part question: Do you have call waiting and is your fax machine trying to disable call waiting when dialing out?
>>>>>In many areas *70 (star-seven-zero) will disable call waiting for a single phone call. If you try to disable call waiting when call waiting is not on the line, the call will not complete. This may come in to play in a speed dial situation.
+++Other things to consider+++
*Is outgoing long distance blocked on the line?
*Is outgoing regional intralata (same area code) long distance blocked?
*Is local calling blocked?
*Is a speed dial misprogrammed? Forgot to dial "1" Dialed "1" in error?
*Is there a wiring problem? >>>Try moving fax machine to a different phone jack.

There may be no magic answer for your problem, I hope one of these suggestions helps.

Sending and receiving faxes

Do you have an analog phone line or are you trying to run it through a PBX system? I was just having this discussion with RKS tech support. Their fax software was hanging up as soon as the connection was established and all I had available was a VOIP phone line. It took 4 tries but I found a US Robotics fax/modem that worked fine in class 2.0 mode.
