And the error would be?? On the printer or on your computer? Cannot answer a question without some basic details.

Error message?
Just put something on the scanner glass and press the print button in the printer itself, leave the computer alone.
Did it work? if so... there's something wrong with the HP software, re-install.
That machine takes copies without the computer on, so, it should work.

try to scan the document from the printer panel ..

I had this exact error not to long ago. There was nothing in the book to help. I just finally changed my black ink cartridge. That stopped the error message.

So if you haven't tried that, put in new cartridges. Hope this helps.... :0)

I now have 2 of these and both print ok but can not scan with either, never tried to till now.
I have re- downloaded the driver from HP.com via Internet Explorer (usually use Mozilla Firefox) and i get 2 diff. error messages : network busy (impossible since it is connected via USB) and the 1 at my office connects wirelessly but error message is something to do with software.

What is the error message? SCANNER ERROR?
If that is what you getting, turn printer off then open scanner cover- on the left hand side there is a toggle log for scanner, position it to unlock then turn printer on then try scanning/copying again.

if your having a different error message pls indicate the exact error that you are getting.
