the flame is irregular and yellow and "wavy" rather than crisp edges. also turns the pans black on the bottom.

There are two considerations for burner height. 1) the gas adjustment screw on the knob and 2) the gas-air mixture to the burner. establish a flame and adjust the screw for a standing flame at the burner. adjust the gas-air ratio orifice so that the flame has no yellow tips.

I adjusted the flame using a small screwdriver, the first 2birners went exactly to plan but then the large center burner could not be adjusted, the adjustment would move but the flame got larger no matter which way I turned the adjustment. So I turned that burner off completely and now all will sound the click of the lighter, I can smell my LP faintly but none of the burners will ignite, including the 2 that I did not try to adjust. Any leads on what to do next?

Unclechuck,
My problem is How do I adjust the burner in the oven to blue flames on a GE propane gas range?

  • Jack2728 Oct 08, 2010

This is a simple fix. You will need a flashlight and a flat blade screwdriver small enough to fit into the burner knob shaft and extend to the adjustment screw inside it.

Pull the knob off the knob shaft for the problem burner. Use the flashlight so you can see the orientation of the screw head slot inside the shaft. Insert your screwdriver and turn it to the left about a 1/2 turn. Remove the screwdriver, put the knob back on and turn on the burner, then adjust the burner to the lowest setting - it should stay on. If the flame is too high now on the lowest setting, pull the knob off with the burner still on and use the screwdriver to adjust the flame until you are happy with it. Use small, incremental adjustments, as it will be fairly sensitive to the changes you make.

Control knob doesnt adjust flame height?

Use a manometer to insure lp gas pressure is correct. The regulator for the stove may need adjusting. The air mixture adjustment may not be correct for PL as well.

Orifices burner flame adjusted

Most burners have an adjustment under the knob. Pull off the knob and use a slender flathead screwdriver. Turn burner down to low, insert screwdriver into knob shaft and rotate internal screw until flame is at "simmer" height. Can adjust each burner separately this way.

Gas fireplace manuals

There are two things that control flame height gas volume and air volume. Some fireplaces have a flame control knob on the gas valvd to adjust flame height. Air volume is controlled by an air shutter usually located where the main gas orifice enters the burner. There is usually a small cover that will need to be removed to access the shutter. Closing the shutter will cause the flames to become taller and more yellow colored. Closing the shutter too far will cause sooting problems so great care should be taken in adjusting this shutter. As a rule, L.P. gas fireplaces do not have as high of a flame as natural gas unit do.
Hope this helps

Adjusting front (most powerful) burner on kitchenaid (Left front)

There is an air port near the adjustment knob. Open for a more blue flame and close for a yellow flame. If these haven't been moved before, you probably have a clogged jet at the burner. Just clean it out with a pin.

Gas fire place flame to low, do you have a schematic to increase the flame ?

Generally, whether it's a Vent-free or Vented fireplace, lower than normal flame height is caused by 3 things: Low Gas pressure; The air shutter control valve is clogged or needs adjusting; The burners need cleaning.

I haven't seen a unit in the past 10 years, that has a flame height adjustment, other the flame height control knob, that's part of the control assembly. Have you checked that, to see what height it's turned to low?

Perhaps, if I knew who the manufacturer was and the model number, I could be of more help to you.

Burner flame height adjustment

All ignitors will always arc whenever one of them does.

I haven't worked with propane systems much, but it seems you may need the propane pressure regulator adjusted.

If the problem is only with the power burner, I would ensure that particular orifice was actually changed. The hole in a propane orifice is smaller than for natural gas.
