Have had printer for two years. Prints but shoots out sheets of paper that are all wrinkled vertically, along lefthand side, and upper, lefthand corner of each sheet comes out bent or torn or wrinkled. Awful wrinkling just started suddenly. Obviously, it makes printed sheets completely unusable. Hate HP products. Just hate 'em! Help, please! What to do? Called HP customer service. As far as the printer driver (which is the software that links computer to printer) is concerned, what do you mean when you refer to "the paper tab of the printer driver"? Where does one find this? How does one find this (both on an Apple Macintosh computer and on a Windows-platform computer)? Are you referring to something in the printer-driver software program or to a physical feature of the printer? If so, where is it located on the printer? This is not clear at all.
I'm really angry and frustrated. I'll never buy anothet HP product again. Never. For what it's worth, I'll also advise my friends and business associates not to buy HP products either. That may not sound like much, but considering that I control a corporate budget that allocates a pretty penny to computer hardware, it means HP definitely will NOT be receiving the big bucks my company has to spend.

I have two HP LaserJet 1300n printers and like all printers after use (or misuse) they will need PM or repair. The problem with the paper wrinkling is easy. If you have worked on printers then you can make the repair for about $8 - $20 and a couple hours. You can find the service manual at HP's website or online. It is typically a roller or the fuser film is torn. Disassemble the printer/fuser in accordance with the service manual or break out pic, clean, replace part and reassemble. For those who do not want to DIY then you can buy the entire fuser assembly on multiple sites anywhere for refurb w/core exchange to new for $70 - $150. The printers are good printers but like all mechanical devices, they will fail...it's just when and how.

You go in from the back it requires only a few screws I believe to get the sides and back off. If you follow the service manual pictures it is really a snap. The mylar is the film around the fuser and when that tears your paper will always wrinkle. It is a problem as common as a roller wearing out and not feeding correctly and that is why the film is readily available on the internet for around $8.00. I bought both my 1300 printers on ebay as non-working and without a day I had two almost brand new, and very expensive, laser jets spitting out docs like no tomorrow. HP makes great laser printers, the commercial LaserJets typically last 8+ years without much more than an occasional maintenance kit to keep them going. The 1000 series printers are quite another story, they are designed for the low end printer market and just can?t take hard usage over time. The typical culprits with paper wrinkling are heat from the fuser or paper problems.
-In the paper tab of the printer driver make sure the correct media is selected. This controls how hot the fuser gets which also causes paper curl/wrinkling.
-Buy some fresh HP grade paper, improper humidity, coatings and storage can also cause problems.
-Try a new HP cartridge.
If you still have no success starts a print job and turn off the printer while the paper is feeding. What you want to do is try to freeze the wrinkling process so we can identify what area is causing it. Post this information.
Also open the rear, straight through door; also let us know what happens.

These machines also suffer from chronic fuser gear stripping which can cause jamming as well as teflon sleeve on the heat roller in the fuser is not durable enough for its intended purpose. i quite agree that all 1000 series laserjets are not suitable for heavy usage and should only be used in small home offices under light duty.
I have the same problem!! All of a sudden the hp 1300 started majorly wrinkling the left side of the paper (and occasionally the whole paper).
I had to buy a new hp 1320 which has been fine. I decided to take this printer home and find the problem. I used to work for IBM...repairing office equipment. I cannot find the problem EXCEPT that there are pieces of torn "mylar"...charcoal color on one side and tan color on the other. I am sure that this has something to do with the problem. I can see a roller(?) from the "straight through" in the back. It is difficult to see. I think this "mylar" (?) is ripped and causing the paper to wrinkle badly. How do I replace the damaged mylar? What is this mylar?? It is impossible to take the covers off and get at this! I have nothing to lose...I am ready to throw this printer away...what a shame if it is something simple to fix!

Remove the paper and make sure it's not curled or wrinkled.
Fan the stack to make sure the sheets are separated.
Open the paper support and pull up the extension.
Extend the output tray.
Flip the feeder guard forward. Squeeze the edge guide and slide it left.
Insert paper, printable side up and short edge first, against the right side and beneath the tab.
You can load up to 100 sheets of 20 lb plain paper or up to 20 sheets of photo paper.
Slide the edge guide to the edge of the paper, but not too tightly.
Follow these guidelines when loading paper:
Do not load paper above the arrow on the edge guide.
If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper from the sheet feeder, fan the edges to separate the sheets, then reload it.
If you're printing on both sides of the paper, try loading fewer sheets.
If it's wrinkled when it ejects, the paper may be damp or too thin.
Do not load paper with holes punched in it for insertion in a binder.
Load the printable side face-up. It's often brighter or whiter than the other side.
Load letterhead or preprinted paper top edge first.
If you experience paper feeding problems, try loading fewer sheets.
If you're using special paper, check the package for special loading instructions.
Follow these steps to reload paper in the Automatic Document Feeder:
Remove the paper and make sure it's not curled or wrinkled.
Tap the originals on a flat surface to even the edges.
Move the edge guides outward.
Insert the originals face-up. You can load up to 30 letter-size sheets at a time. If you load legal-size sheets, insert only 10 sheets at a time. Make sure the originals are not creased or folded and do not have tape, staples, or other materials that could obstruct the feeder.
If the paper does not completely eject, press the paper with folded side paper
button, then open the printer cover and remove the paper. Also, check
the Paper Size setting in your application or printer software. If the paper is wrinkled when it comes out, it may be damp or too thin. Load a new stack then try to print again. You can also try to check the printer alignment and the printer setting.
2 reasons: 1. Was there a paper jam prior to this problem? It could be that the paper was pulled out and a small bit of it is stuck on the pins that guide the paper from the heat roller. If no torn jammed paper prior to this issue, then check out 2.
2. the heater/roller is damaged and needs to be replaced. I would suggest you take it to your nearest HP dealer to properly diagnose this for you.This would save you unnecessary cost in trying to pull it apart and causing more damage to it.
Depending on wear the tear is at determines the issue. The wrinkling paper and the look of your printer sounds like some sort of fuser issue. Recycled paper is more likely to wrinkle and the grain can cause paper to wrinkle as well. The Long grain paper is up and down the sheet and short gain is side to side on a sheet of paper. If your printer is on a long grain setting and you have the pages coming out sides ways or vice versa then your print outs can wrinkle.
If the paper is lodged too far into the printer and can't be removed:
Press the power button to turn the printer off.
Pull firmly on the paper to remove it. If you can't reach the
paper because it is too far in, raise the front cover and remove the
paper from the front of the printer.
Close the front cover.
Press the power button to turn the printer back on.
Resend your document to print.
Ensure that:
The paper is a recommended paper for inkjet printers.
You do not force the paper down into the printer when you load
it. For example, if you are loading letter or A4 size paper, the top
edge of the paper should extend above the top of the sheet feeder.
The printer is on a flat, level surface.
The left paper guide is against the side of the paper.
You do not load too much paper in the sheet feeder. Depending
on the thickness of your paper, the sheet feeder can hold up to 100
sheets of paper.
The left paper guide does not cause the paper to bend in the sheet feeder.
Your printer feeds regular paper as expected. If regular paper
feeds without causing problems, load the envelopes vertically against
the right side of the sheet feeder. Make sure the paper guide is
against the side of the envelopes.
Envelopes or the appropriate specialty papers are selected in the printer driver.
You are using a paper or envelope size supported by your printer.
Important: Your application may not be designed to print envelopes. For help, consult the documentation that accompanied your application.
Hi there it could be that the fuser or the drum unit has some sticky labels attached to it check these units also check the paper feed path as there may also be some obstruction causing the paper to crease and crinkle.
when this occurs the problem is most of the time with the transport roller, fuser / fixing assembly roller.question is the image still toner only and not fused to the paper.
In these areas there is offen a jammed and not removed piece of paper dislodged in the paper path or jammed in the fuser or the transfer rollers teflon coating has perished inspect the areas carefully and remove any found if the unit still is faulty (fanning of paper the fuser would be the first to be replaced are past there usable life) if so then Post a reply
