The scanner lock on the 3160fn is located underneath the scanner where you reach your hand into pull out the printed papers. On the top to the left. Flip the switch... power off ... then power back on and it works. Hours of anger management could have been averted with some simple user guide documentation.Author jwaawaa Jan 05, 2008

If you on windows xp, go to My Computer and in the list of drives and devices you will see your scanner icon. Double click to open the scanner dialogue box. From there simply follow the instructions to complete your scan.

If you are on windows Vista, go to start/all programs/windows photo gallery. When it opens click on file/import from scanner or camera. The dialogue opens for you to select your scanner. The scanner dialogue box opens and simply follow the instructions to complete your scan.

Printer properties dialogue box for mac

Go to the Apple Logo (top left) and choose System Preferences. In the hardware (second) line, choose Print and Fax. You can add printers by choosing the + sign, From here you can choose which printer is the default. You can also choose Printer Setup and paper size

Also, click on the desktop and enter the keystrokes Command (Open Apple) f. Enter print in the search box and scroll down to Applications. You should find the printer utility icon and some other print related icons. You can open these and read the directions. It's hard to be more step-by step since I don't know what you wan to change. Within an application (such as MS Word) you also have the page setup choice under the FILE menu.

My kodak esp3 will not scan it prints and copies.

I had the same problem and I got it to work. I have Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 on my computer. Here's what I did...

Go to "Start" then "Control Panel".
-Click on "Programs and Features".
-Scroll down to Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 - click on that and then click on the "Change" link above.
-A box will pop up, click on "Add or Remove Features" and then click "Continue".
-Click on the "+" next to "Office Tools"
-Click on the "+" next to "Microsoft Office Document Imaging"
-Click on the down arrow next to "Scanning, OCR and Indexing..."
-Then, click on "Run from my Computer"
-Next click on "Continue" at the bottom of the dialogue box and your configuration process should begin

Once completed go to the start menu and type in "Scan" into the search box. Go to "Microsoft Office Document Scanning" Once there, plug your scanner into you computer, chose what color you want your scan to be in, and click on the picture of the scanner to the right. To make my scans clear, I had to click on "Scanner..." and chose KODAK ESP AiO as my scanner even though I have a KODAK ESP-3 printer/scanner.

I hope these instructions weren't too confusing and I hope this helps some of you out! My scanner was causing me a lot of frustration for a while!
