Do you still have the manual that came with the machine? It should have the original setup instructions. I looked on HP's site and couldn't find anything that specifically answered your question, but if you don't have the manual any longer, you can download a copy from HP. It should have what you need:

How do i set the time and date

Hi
Note If you press Start Fax Color but the sender sent the fax in black and
white, the HP all-in-one prints the fax in black and white.
Set the date and time
You can set the date and time from the control panel. When a fax is transmitted, the
current date and time are printed along with the fax header. The date and time format
is based on the language and country/region setting.
Note If your HP all-in-one loses power, you will need to reset the date and time.
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 4, and then press 1.
This selects Basic Fax Setup and then selects Date and Time.
3 Enter the month, day, and year by pressing the appropriate numbers on the
keypad. Depending on your country/region setting, you might enter the date in a
different order.
The underline cursor is presented initially beneath the first digit; it automatically
advances to the next digit when you press a button. The time prompt
automatically appears after you enter the last digit of the date.
4 Enter the hours and minutes.
5 If your time is displayed in the 12-hour format, press 1 for AM, or 2 for PM.
The new date and time settings appear on the control panel display.

Is there a way for me to leave a date/time stamp when sending a fax on my intellifax 1940CN?

if you enable send report you can get an a4 page with time and date confirming that the fax has been sent, but when set up it will print for every fax. the other option is to have it print on error only and you can manually print report of sent recieved items( all date and time stamped) with the number sent to as a list.

How do I change the date stamp that prints when I send a fax

Ring the person you sent the fax to and ask them to white-out the date printed and fill in the required date.

Alternatively, you could read the Operating Instructions (http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/FAXMACHINES/Panasonic%20KX-FL501%20Plain-Paper%20Laser%20Multifunction.pdf) and check page 17.

Date and time stamp

Here's the instructions for the date/time stamp.... I'll check on no. of pages and post that too.

Press the 'User Tools' key.
Use the right/left arrows until '2. Fax Features' is displayed.
Press the 'OK' key.
Press right/left until '4. Key Op. Tools' is displayed
Press 'OK'
Press '2222'
Press 'OK'
Press right/left until '7. User Parameters' is displayed
Press 'OK'
'1. Change' should be displayed - Press 'OK'
Now 'Refer Op. Manual: Switch 00 :xxxx xxxx' should be displayed; use the right/left arrow until 'Switch 02 :xxxx xxxx' is displayed (xxxx being a bunch of 1's and 0's).
When 'Switch 02' is displayed, the third digit from the RIGHT should be a 0. Press the '2' key, and that digit should change to a 1.
Press the 'OK'' key.
You should be back at the 'User Parameters' menu - just press the 'User Tools' key to return to the standby display.
Presto, try it out!
