Engine speed fluctuates
I am hoping that you use only premium fuel (no corn) to keep the carb clean. Also, it helps to pour a half can of anti-fogging agent into the fuel tank to help remove moisture and give an octane boost, plus it will clean carb ports. Any fuel that includes ethanol can kill the engine.
White smoke coming out of mower
It sounds as though you are losing power (electrical power); see if charging the battery fully allows it to run longer or if charging the battery helps.
Craftsman lawn mower 917270810 will not start
When the ignition key is turned to the start position you should have a 12 volt supply to the low tention wire at the solinoid, if not you need to check if there is a 12 volt supply to the back of the ignition switch, if not there is a break in the wiring to one of these components, also check that there is a good eart to the chassis from the black battary leed.
Riding lawnmower will not start with key. I tried
Depend on the make and model of the mower....the safety switches usually are the seat, pto, shift lever, brake and clutch. If any of these are bad...the switch won't work. Can you cross the starter and have it start? With these safety switches....you can't just disconnect them to bypass. Most require a loop and running a wire from one side of the switch to the other will usually help you find the one causing the issue.
The solenoid comes in about 4 different models. Some ground to the frame and some don't. Not all key switches are the same either...we stock over 25 different switches and I could show you 7 that look identical but are different.
Personally I would start testing from the starter and work my way back...starter, solenoid, safety switches, starter switch. www.nnyparts.com
Belt diagram for a Craftsman 42" riding lawn mower
there are as many belt diagrams as there are mowers. You will need your model number to get the correct diagram. You should find this under the seat or on the very back of the unit. sorry can't help more at this time, when you get this, you can get online and go to sears and you will find it there.
Adjust the blade belt
Hi Terry:
As good luck would have it, I have one of these mowers.
As I see it, there are only two adjustments possible:
1) the for/aft positioning of the mower deck as determined by the length of the central front deck positioning rod.
2) the amount of tension on the spring that holds the engage idler against the belt. That can be changed by moving the bracket that anchors the spring.
I've had my unit for several years now and replaced blades, spindles, and pulleys (I mow far too many rocks) but never had to adjust the blade drive belt.
Hope this helps
