I found a resolution posted on one of the websites. It helped others to resolve their problem and should work for you as well.

Follow the below steps to resolve the issue:

First do a quick scan of your registry for malware

Make sure you ignore top advert and use free "Download Now 3.22MB)
now run a check on your registry

Again beware of the shareware ads and make sure you find regsoft.
Finally download a new browser and try logging in.

If everything is ok uninstall IE and re-install.

you can download the drivers from your laptop company's home page For eg. Sony Vaio laptop's website.

Now you can install the drivers and the webcam will start working

How did you try to do a recovery?

• For VAIO laptops released fall of 2003 onwards, the computers come with a vaio recovery center/wizard you can use to format the harddrive

follow these steps:

1. restart the computer
2. press the f10 key repeatedly when you see the VAIO logo until you get the loading files or edit boot option screen
3. if you get the edit boot option screen, press enter
4. when it loads the VAIO recvoery partition/center, select restore c:drive
5. follow the on-screen instruction
6. process may take up to 45mins or 1hour and may restart randomly

Note that once you start the recovery process, all files you installed to the hdd will be deleted and cannot be recovered

BIOS upgrades are USUALLY done in DOS. Most times, you need to boot from a floppy or CD that is specific for BIOS upgrade. Some BIOS upgrade software may be apllied through Windows, but this depends on your computer manufacturer.
BTW, if your computer is running ok, DO NOT MESS UP WITH THE BIOS. You may risk ruining your laptop.
IF IT IS NO BROKEN, DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT.

Select CONTROL PANEL
Select SYSTEM
Select DEVICE MANAGER
(This will show you all your computer's hardware and peripherals)
Locate your CD/DVD "DVD/CD-ROM DRIVES"
Not listed?-Defective or no power. (If you can get drawer to open and close by pressing button, you know it has power.)
Listed? right click it, select PROPERTIES
(Yellow triangle indicates error)
First tab GENERAL shows if it is working properly.
Then click on DRIVER tab to see if you just need to update the driver, or roll back to a previous driver.

I believe on Sony's you need to press F12 during boot up to access the Recovery Partition.

WARNING: This will erase everything on your Hard Drive

Often there is NOT enough output to drive the TV's audio amplifier directly from the earphone's port. You will need a small Pre-amplifier, in between the two, You should also try your "Line Out" as that puts out more signal, than the earphone jack. If that still will not drive it, then toy will need a pre-amp, Radio Shack, or the like will have them. Also ensure your Volume is set high.

possibly a bad LCD screen, no other solution aside from having the LCD replaced.

you restored to a previous time and it restarts your system and it should of said it restored.

Push Alt F10 or F10 (depending on laptop brand).
To fix this you need a Recovery CD(should be with your computer) or the Windows DVD itself to launch Repair Service.
