My laptop keeps shutting off even thought it is
its sounds to me if the laptop keeps shutting itself down its because you are having overheat issues you may have a bad fan or heat sink which prevents the laptop from cooling itself if it is new you should take it back if not you may want to have it sent in for repair! hope this helps!

Make sure that the operating System on the recovery CDs is the same as the one on your computer.
If you are trying to recover from a CD with Vista and your computer operating system is Win-XP that will not work.
Other Thing may be you had a hidden partition and some how you over written it or it is damaged.
check the hard disk partition stat.

You call the IT professional at the Company you used to work for and ask him/her nicely to erase the administrato password on the laptop that you bought from them (with proof of purchase maybe), so that you can use this hardware. If the IT guy does not want to do this favor for a former colleague, go to the immediate supervisor and so on up the hierarchical ladder of the company. If you are persuasive enough, you may not have to reach the chairman of the board to get a redress.
You can also buy a retail OS or one of the free Linux distributions and install it.

Cd drive dosent work
