Have you checked to ensure the WiFi switch is turned on? The computer with the red X is typically to let you know that connection is off (or in the case of the port that there is no hardline). So far I see no problem. For some reason. you chose to boot Windows in safe mode. During that boot mode, the screen goes black and starts displaying lines of text detailling all the drivers it is loading. At the end of the process Windows will run in safe mode.Try rebooting normally or rebooting to the last good configuration that worked.If there are problems please be more specific.

Yes! you are further off using the restore cd's, trying to restore from the hard drive almost never works.

First - try to re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer to ensure the hard drive is connected properly..
If this does not work then reboot and go to theBIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn'tdetect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Next - to determine if thehard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an external hard drive and you cannot open the various folders and files,this confirms the hard drive is faulty. The hard drive needs to bereplaces in the laptop and Windows installed and the laptop's device driversand your programs etc to get a functioning laptop again.

its not working and cant be removed there should be a tiny tiny little hole you can hit w a pen or pin and it will release your dvd drive

If you do a full sys restore, it will wipe out all old data..
What you need to do is boot up on a CD first and try to repair the MBR (Master Boot Record)

OR need to find someone who can loan you the WinXP CD . Or a copy of it. (Or download an ISO (burnable copy) to create one) It is the serial number that validates the Windows install. They don't have to give you the serial as you should have your own on a label under the notebook.

Actually the chances are not good for recovery while in the notebook. You will have a better chance to recover files if you are able to remove the hard drive and install it aas a slave in another (desktop) PC (will come up as D or E drive

When you've finished recovering file, it will be easier to format the HD before putting it back in note book. If the Recovery partion is still intact, do not wipe it out as you can maybe still use it to reload windows.
Worst case - the HD read write heads are damaged and the drive is toast. That will mean no file recovered and replacing HD with new (or used) and reloading windows from scratch.

This appears to be caused by a malfunction of the mouse (device or connection), or a stuck key(s) on your keyboard. Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? Ifnot then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Based on the Model # which you have provided, it seems that there are no Firmware Updates released for VPCEB13FA Notebook.
The only Firmware Update which is available is for the Bluetooth Device in the Computer.

Each cable is supposed to have one sticker or something engraved in the metal connector that says + or -. In the wireless card each connector has the + and - symbols.
