Can't connect to friends network
Hi,
They are four reasons why your wireless would say "acquiring network address" and later changing into "Limited or no connectivity"
1) Invalid WEP/WPA Encryption key.
2) Mac Filtering, Your friends might have disallowed the mac address of your laptop or he it might be filtered.
3) Short IP range mentioned on the router (May your friend has specified a short ip address range for DHCP)
4) Invalid configuration for wireless on Windows Vista
To this problem, do this on your laptop
1) Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center (Classic View) >> Manage Wireless network>> remove the wireless network by clicking and then right clicking on top of it and remove.
2) Now try to connect again to the wireless network, reenter the key and that should do it.
If this doesn't work, then probably you have to ask your friend about the 2 and 3 possible cause listed above.
Good luck!
And Thanks.

Xbox needs NAT settings to be
You need to go into your routers configuration page and Change the NAT, Network Address Translation, to "OPEN" or in other words, ALL traffic can pass through, as opposed to the "Moderate" or Allowing ONLY certain sorts of traffic to pass through to your PC. You need to look in your manual as to how to do this. basically you type the "Address" of the "Router" into the address bar of a browser, and login with login & password, then go to the NAT section and change it there.

How do I lock my router
You want to secure the wireless network.
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router with the cable.
Check the IP address on the computer. Open the router set up page.
Once you open the set up page, you will find the option to make it secured

whenever the connection drops, is the DSL light blinking?
because, it is just normal for the E1 light to blink, but the DSL light should be solid at all times.
It can be a possible issue with the cable or the LAN card, but you still need to have your line checked by Verizon to make sure that it is not a modem or a network issue.

I am having a problem
To turn on the Ethernet light on the router, try the following steps:
1. Check the cable if it is properly connected from the LAN card to the router. The pin of the RJ45 should click once the cable is inserted into the port.
2. Try another cable. Make sure it is a straight through cable.
3. Try another port on the router (ports 1 - 4).
4. Check in device manager if the Network adapter is installed and working properly.
5. Check the Local Area Network connection on your computer if it is enabled.
6. Check the IP address of the computer by going to the command prompt. Type ipconfig. The ip address should start with 192.168.x.x.
Once the ethernet light is ON it means that there is a connection from the computer to the router. To turn on the Internet light on the router, do the following:
1. Access the GUI of the westell router. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of a web browser.
2. By dafault the username is admin; password is password. If this doesn't work, type admin for the username and password field.
3. Once you are in the setup screen, go to the Configuration tab and select your internet connection type. This would depend on your ISP. You need to ask your ISP if you have a PPPoE connection or DHCP.
4. If you have PPPoE, you need to enter your ISP username and password. If you have DHCP, then the internet ip address should be obtained automatically from your ISP.
5. If there is still no internet light, you need to contact your ISP and ask the settings and check your line.
Good luck!
Please take a moment to leave a comment if you find this solution helpful. Your feedback is important and very much appreciated.

What size power supply do i need
You need to use an external 120 VAC to 12V DC wall-mount power supply.
Take note: Westell recommends the use of a surge suppressor to protect equipment attached to the power supply.
Hope this helps!

The password/network key underneath the router is used for the wireless connection.
By default the SSID or wireless network name is the serial number of the device. It is also located underneath the device.

Access the setup page through a web browser on a wired computer. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1.
Default Username: admin
Default Password: password
If this doesn't work, try admin for the username and password. If still doesn't work, then you will need to reset the gateway. Take note that before resetting the gateway, you need to know the internet connection settings. Resetting the gateway will restore the settings to default.
Once you are in the setup page of the gateway, go to Configuration> Wireless> then look for the wireless security. It should show you the WEP key.
Enter the wep key on your laptop.
I hope this works! Good luck!

I reset my router and need to a security key or
You will need the install disk to enter a new security key and password from the setup
You have to unistall the existing software and start over
Write down the security key you have provided when you do the initial setup and the password also and place it in a safe place you can remember. I try to memorize the security key.
If you don't have the install disk go to the manufacturer and have another one sent or download it from their site.

No wireless light on modem. No remote access for laptop
The wireless side of the router must be disabled. The easiest way to fix that is to do a hard reset of the router. Have a look at the back or base for a "reset" switch ...might be behind a little hole in the case. Press it in for a few seconds and the router should reset to factory. That should re-enable the wireless. If not ...then the router may be faulty.

Westell Linksys 327W
Ok right I love these issues.
Here we go!!
First I want you to determine if this is a no sync issue or if this is a no route issue. Know this is the difference between working with Verizon or working with Verizon On-Line. If you have a sync issue which means the DSL light is off or blinking, this would be a Verizon proper issue and is easy to have fixed, however if the DSL light is on and the internet light is off this means that you have not received a PPPoE derived address and thus while you have DSL (Digital Subcriber Line) sync you do not have connectivity to a gateway router to route you to the Internet.
I want you to log into you DSL modem (http://192.168.1.1) then using your login ID and Password the one you configured for the Router not Internet access. And the go to the screen that show your DSL connectivity see if it is up or down *Remember DSL refers to the layer 1 connectivity, and PPPOE refers to the layer 2 connectivity".
If the DSL light is on this meaans that you have to call verizon and say "My DSL light is on, but I am not getting an IP address which means my layer 1 connectivity is working, but my layer 2 PPPOE connectivity did not provide the platform for my layer 3 level to be built". so this now becomes a task of troubleshooting the layer 2 systems (PPPOE server, and IP Address delivery systems, and Redback SMS). Instead of a half hour of "is your modem plugged in".
If your DSL light is off then your layer 1 systems are not working this could be anything from your modem to the ASAM ( ATM Subscriber Access Multiplexer ) system or DSLAM (Digital subscriber Line Access
Multiplexer).
In any case if the DSL light is off they just have to figure out why. This can be done at the central office by disconnceting your cable and pair and trying to sync up at the vertical shelf (Ca/Pr) or at the split bank.
If they sync up the problem is outside, if they do not sync up the problem is inside the CO either at the Split bank or the DSL OE block.
If the problem is in the CO they will fine and fix it. If the problem is outside, what you can do to expedite things is to take your DSL modem to the NID (Network Interface device) and connect to the phone line that has DSL on it and try to sync up there. If you can sync up the problem is inside of your house, if you can not sync up the problem is outside of your house prior to the NID and thus is verizon's responsibility.
I hope this helps.
