you don't need a signal booster. Instead what you need is a WIFI signal repeater. This device basically captures your router's signal and repeat it to other devices. It is clear you have not setup encryption within the router. You need to access your router, go into the router setup and setup security normal wpa2 or wep pending your computers and operating system in use. It will ask you for a secret passkey to enter. Without having this setup any one can cannot to your wireless router. But once the passkey has been setup only you will be able to access it. Where are you entering it? (In the router it should be) and simply enter "change password" you will then need to enter this new P/W into your laptop / PDA / iPhone etc.

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. First connect your router to computer with ethernet lan cable.
Then you can access it with following link.
http://192.168.1.1
or
http://192.168.0.1

If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip and gateway ip is your router ip access router with it.
Then it ask for user and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" orblank or "password"
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Then configure DNS settings in wan settings as dns ip get automatic from internet service provider.
Then save settings and restart router.
