Try replace/refill cartridge.

Hi Barry,Remove all the cartridges, Clean the Golden ( electrical ) contacts with lint free cloth.Reinstall the Cartridges and wait for the printer to align.If the issue does not resolve, Press the Setup ( home ) button front panel. Scroll till you find Tools - Press ok, Look for Clean Printhead/Cartridges - Press OK.Wait for the process to complete and this should solve the issue.Regards,Sean

this could be because there is light getting into the scanner. To test this out cover it with a thick cloth and try again lets see what happens.

This indicates that your head is not correctly installed.Clean the contact surface with a tissue paper then try to insert it until it snaps in place. On hp printers the ink cartridge is the print head.hope it helps

Clean Cartridge contacts in carriage assembly with solvent(Alcohol), try it. No result any one of carriage assembly or fomatter faulty, I wont suggest to go for repair because of it's expensive.
