No black ink is appearing on paper
If this is an old printer. The nozzles might be clogged. A Q-tip with a little alcohol might get some of that dried ink out. Be careful it could get messy. Also see if your printer has a built in cleaning test. you might have to access the test from the printer tools on your computer. I’m happy to help further over the phone at

Vista upgrades???????
Go to My compter/Help/ and check out program compatability
The idea is to get Vista to revognise older software/systems
You shoulf be able to select XP/98 etc.,
Acts like its printing but no ink on paper
Using HP Director, you should be able to check estimated ink levels by selecting Settings -> Print Settings -> Printer Toolbox and then clicking on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.
If the ink levels appear to be sufficient, on the printer control panel press Setup, 1, 4. This will generate a self-test report. If there is streaking of any of the 4 bars at the bottom of the page, the affected cartridge may need to be cleaned. If any of the bars are missing, the cartridge needs to be replaced.
To clean the cartridges, press Setup, 5, 1. This will print a page of patterns.
I downloade the latest software
• First of all, make sure that your computer is up-to-date on all Java and Flash software.
- Download the java updates here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
- Download the flash updates here: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
• Reboot computer to apply changes and try.
• If that does not work, run a spyware and a virus scan on your computer. Windows Defender will check for spyware and it is free. Avast Antivirus will check for viruses and is also free.
- Download Windows Defender here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en&mg_id=10134
- Download Avast Antivirus here: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
• If those steps haven't helped, let's try different web browsers. The main ones for Windows, besides IE, are, Firefox, Safari, and Opera. Try them one at a time to see if you have success viewing your e-mail messages.
- Download Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-3.5&os=win&lang=en-US
- Download Safari here: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
- Download Opera here: http://www.opera.com/download/
I know this seems like alot to absorb, but somewhere in these steps, I believe you'll find the solution to your problem. Good luck and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Continue to receive "Remove and check black cartridge" message
I would call hp again. The cartridge you purchased is covered for a one year warranty and they should be able to replace to make sure issue is not with the cartridge itself. Since this is not a computer issue tell them you have a mac and you will get to Canada support instead of India.
Hp 5510 wont recognize scanner
Step one: Check the All-in-One, the USB cable, and the connection
You must use a USB cable that is less than five meters (16 feet five inches) in length to connect All-in-One products. Do not use patch cables to increase the length of an existing cable; however, you can use a powered USB hub if you need more length. USB-to-parallel adapters are not supported by HP All-in-One products.
Disconnect any other USB printers—USB scanners, USB cameras, and any other USB connected peripherals other than keyboards and/or mice—while you test the USB connection to the All-in-One. If the connection to the All-in-One succeeds with only the All-in-One connected to the computer, start reconnecting USB devices one at a time. If the connection fails after reconnecting a device, you may need to purchase and install a USB hub or uninstall the software for that device.
Checking the All-in-One and the USB cable
Perform the following steps to verify that the All-in-One is working correctly and to verify that the USB cable connection is not the problem:
-
Check the front panel of the All-in-One to verify that it is turned On and does not have an error. Correct any problems found.
-
Print a self-test page from the front panel of the All-in-One. If the page does not print, verify that the front panel is installed, all doors on the All-in-One are closed, and check the paper supply for problems. If the problem cannot be determined, contact HP for assistance. Follow these steps to print a self-test page:
-
Models that have a Setup or Menu button: Press the Setup or Menu button until Reports appears in the display, and then press Enter . Use the arrow buttons to scroll through the options until Self-Test Report is selected, and then press Enter .
-
Models that do not have a Setup or Menu button: Press and hold the Cancel button, and then press the Color Start Copy button.
-
Disconnect the USB cable and examine it. Replace the USB cable if it is damaged or shows any signs of having been pinched, crushed, or run over by chair rollers.
-
With the computer started and the All-in-One turned on, plug the USB cable into a USB port on the back of the computer or into a powered hub and then reconnect the USB cable to the All-in-One. USB ports in a keyboard and on the front of some computers may not provide enough power to maintain communication with an All-in-One device.
-
If another USB cable is available, replace the USB cable to verify that the cable is not the problem.
Verify that the computer supports USB and check the Device Manager
Some computers do not come from the factory with the USB port enabled. If the All-in-One was connected before the software was installed, Windows device detection (Plug and Play) will not occur correctly. Complete the following steps to check whether the USB port is enabled and check for unknown entries in the Device Manager:
-
Right-click My Computer (click Start first in Windows XP) and then click Properties .
-
Select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager .
-
In the Device Manager, scroll to the bottom of the list of installed devices and look for the Universal Serial Bus (USB) entry. This might be listed under System devices .
-
If you see the Universal Serial Bus (USB) entry, then Windows has recognized and configured the USB port. Proceed to Step 4.
-
If you do not see the Universal Serial Bus (USB) entry or there is a yellow exclamation or question mark next to the USB controller, Windows has not recognized the USB port, the port is disabled in the computer BIOS setup, or there is a problem with the USB port setup in Windows. Contact the manufacturer of the computer for assistance correcting these problems.
-
Look through the listed devices for any devices that have an exclamation or question mark beside them. Click the plus next to any of these devices to view additional information about the device. If the device listed is an entry for the HP All-in-One, do one of the following:
-
Devices that have a question mark next to them: Remove the entry by highlighting the device and then clicking Action and then Uninstall . After the device has been removed, disconnect and then reconnect the USB cable to the All-in-One.
-
-
If the problem persists, disconnect the USB cable from the All-in-One and then uninstall the software following the directions in the HP document Uninstalling the HP All-in-One Software (bpu01843) (in English). Be sure to use any software cleanup utilities listed in that document for your product model and then reinstall the software.

My hp 5510 all-in-one won't scan photos
Unfortunately the 5510 is no longer supported by HP for OS X 10.5.x and up. On the Apple tech site, they actually redirect you to a page the HP upgrade page (read: buy a new one).
If anyone can think of any 3rd part software that works with this, please post!
Thanks!
My printer will not print, therefore I cannot
On mine, the big drive wheel w/ the numbered plastic disk stuck to it cracked around shaft and stripped. Fed one page, wouldn't the next but made bad sound as tried. Said gear is first one on the left on shaft. Used little gel superglue. Stuck numbered sensor wheel back on any position; seems to reset itself. Took me gutting whole thing to find it though it though, duh. Got one plastic piece, one strip of pad, and two odd shaped pads left over, though. Hadn't figured out where they go yet but it prints and copies great! No screw left either!
