I have confused the coil wires on my 1999 1200 trophy.can you tell me what color goes on what side

One side is Marked (-), that goes to the ignition points, the other is marked (+) that goes to the ignition 12 volts switched

It goes to the relay

Power supply wire is usually much heavier guage than speaker wire.
Power wire may have an in-line fuse.
Power wire may be paired with a black ground wire.
Power wire is commonly colored red.
Speakerwire is usually paired with a similar light guage wire and originates in a cluster of similar light guage wires.

If you can tell me what color the wire is I should be able to tell you where it goes.
But if you are getting spark from the coil tower the primary ignition system is working.
Have you checked the coil wire, and will it fire a plug ? The coil could be weak enough to fire a plug in open air but not in a cylinder under compression.
You do know for a fact the distributor rotor is turning, right ?

the kill is your feed ..it goes to the jumped side..its hot all the time...the other sides of the coil are the breaker side of your coils..white to white...the other 2 are for 1 front and 1. rear...put a test lite on the wire and check when the cylinder is up to tell witch goes where

I can send you a complete wiring diagram for your Sportster. The wires you are talking about go to the stock igniton unit, the "brain box" or "black box" that is behind the triangular plate on the right side of the bike as best as I can remember (1984 was a long time ago). There should be two white wires on the coil and one is the "hot" wire and the other goes to the ignition unit. The pink wire goes to the tachometer. The blue wire goes to the opposite side of the coil from the white wire, same side as the pink wire. The black wire is a ground wire for the igntion unit most likely. But, I'm confused by you saying the wires go to a "sensor". The only sensor on the bike is in the timer cavity on the right side of the engine and the wires coming from it are different color from what you mention. Are you sure it's not simply a plug? If you can see one of your spark plugs follow the plug wire to the other end. that is your coil. some vehicles have more than one coil. Even if you are still confused it really doesnt matter because the stuff on both ends of the plug wires needs to be changed. as long as you can find the wires you can figure out what goes where.

Left side points are for cylinders 1 and 4.
Right side points are for cylinders 2 and 3

Left side points have a White wire coming from it.
Right side points have a Black wire coming from it.

One coil runs two cylinders.

One coil runs cylinders 1 and 4.
One coil runs cylinders 2 and 3.

No matter what style of ignition coil you use, the Black wire will connect to the Points. Whatever other color of wire they use, connects to the ignition switch.

BUT, check the specifications for the coils you're going to install. Connect the Negative side to the points. The Positive side to the ignition switch.

The Orange wire with a White stripe, coming out of the harness of the Suzuki Gs550 is from the ignition switch. It goes to a splice connector, and from there goes to two wires. The wires split off into one wire for each coil.

There is a White wire on the coil, that is used for Cylinders 1 and 4.
There is a Black wire on the coil, that is used for Cylinders 2 and 3.
