Engine Performance problem 2007 Dodge Caliber 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 40000 miles I'm thinking it may be a fuel filter problem...when I try to accelerate, especially on an uphill grade, the whole car hesitates or jerks roughly. Also, during deceleration, the herky jerky also continues. I have had this same issue with previous cars I have owned, which is why I am assuming it is the fuel filter. I would appreciate any kind of feedback or solutions as to how I can fix this issue myself before resorting to a dealer where I will have to sign over my liver and heart to afford repair costs. Thank you in advance and have a great day!

I have a 2007 with the same problem so I had a friends garage work on it and it was coming up with a common code .
it turned out to be that 2 of the new spark plugs were burning lean and the others were burning rich. the problem was solved by replacing (2) thermostats the magor bucking is gone but the car still hesitates a little when shifting so I intend on replacing the plugs again and wires also.

update.. the car was running good for the last year but is starting to hestitate when driving at speeds over 65 MPH.. so I put in some fuel ingector cleaner ( not the problem ..next I will change plugs again and this time the wires also.If not that I will be looking at the cam sensor, cadylic converter or even the themostats again.. will update again later

The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump in the tank

the problem with hesitaion is gone after useing seafoam and STP in the fuel..I think it helped clear the filter..I also had a issue with early transmission shifting at 80mph tach goes from 3500-2500.. I replaced the input transmission sensor located at the front/bottom of transmission ..there is also a rear sensor that controlls the speedo at the top rear but it seems ok along with the trans controll modual that seem ok also

You should definitely replace the fuel filter though this probably won't fix your hesitation. It wouldn't hurt to replace the spark plugs this is usually the culprit on these engine. I have the same engine in a '99 caravan and found the for some reason the spark plugs on cylinder 3 and 4 loosen up after one year and cause a misfire between 45 and 50 mph under load (when mildly accelerating).

SOURCE: My 2003 dodge grand caravan wants to stall when

check all vacuum lines to make sure none of them are off especially the one behind the throttle body and also try some STP gas treatment in the gas tank make sure you have aleast a half a tank of gas when adding it and then finish filling it up

SOURCE: Jerks while applying brakes

It sound s reasonable. Essentially besides probably having worn brake pads, the brake rotors are probably warped giving you that brake pulsation . .Beware that the rear brakes can also cause pulsation, so be sure a thorough diagnosis is performed

i have the same car and year. Both my lights flashed i bought it to my mechanic he checked my oil and said that when i got my car serviced at a cheap place they put in cheap oil. he hooked up his computer to mine and got an o2 sensor code. he shut the light off and changed my oil. all set. i also use premium gasoline and my car runs very good.

SOURCE: 2007 dodge nitro, malfunction indicator light came

There are literally thousands of codes that can cause that light to come on. Auto Zone will scan the computer for free and give you any codes you have. We would need to know the codes to help you pinpoint the issue.

Testimonial: "ZX2Fast had the answer I needed, and told me where I could have my MIL indicator light checked for free, rather than paying the Dealer to check it! "

2008 dodge caliber drivers side powerd mirror replacement

The 2008 Dodge Caliber is versatile and has some unique features, but a low-quality cabin and underwhelming performance keep this model near the bottom of the small wagon list. Pros: Versatile interior, available all-wheel drive, wide range of engine choices. Cons: Sluggish acceleration from CVT-equipped models, low-quality interior materials, unimpressive build quality, several important safety features are optional rather than standard.------------------------------------------vas 5054a

Cavalier blowing out black smoke car idles fairly well considerin

Black smoke is usually unburned fuel. P0171 reads bank 1 system too lean. There isn't one answer. You need to dig further and inspect your cars fuel system, from the pump to the injectors. Because of the mileage you may want to start off with a compression test just to see where you stand with the motor. write back if you have any other questions.

Change your air filter if it hasn't been changed recently. Spark plugs, plug wires and fuel filter can also make a difference.
