My '92 grand marquis has a problem, it surges when the check engine light comes on when you are driving but the light has no set pattern when it comes on. It just does when you're driving and it goes on and off. It also sometimes surges when idling mostly when in a gear. I have got the codes from the computer and they say that the fuel pump secondary circuit is open to the pcm and another one that says it is open to the battery. I have changed the EGR system including the tube to the exhaust, sensors, and the valve it self as well as the maf sensor. It has had a full tune up and I can't figure out what is causing it and it is getting terrible mileage I think because of it. Can you help me?
Thanks, Roger

If EGR was out your engine light would stay on!usually hi way drive is a whole new emission game sensor work 100% different that city drive you have a O2 sensor problem don"t Get$$ the problem when if you say it only will do it on highway then take it on highway with OBD 2 in run scan mode have a passenger observe it this will give the the proper code you will need to peg it cheers!

Hi, welcome to FixYa.com my name is Shawn and I will be answering your question.
Two possible causes first a bad DPFE sensor which monitors EGR flow or next clogged EGR ports. Remove the throttle body 4 8mm bolts and a cable then clean the EGR passage out. Clear the code by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.
I hope my assistance helped you and resolved your concern, if you need further assistance please ask.

Usually answered in minutes!
you need the KOER (key on and engine running ) codes and the KOEO (key on engine off codes.
Use a scan tool to clear all the codes disconnecting the battery will not do it!
Drive the vehicle for about ten miles on the freeway or until the check engine light returns recheck the codes both engine on and engine off. There are two totally different methods of retreiving these codes on an older ford I need both sets of codes please.
email them to me at [email protected]
Make sure the car is warmed up before you check for codes or you will get a coolant sensor code.
