Replace a filter and gasket or drain and refill

I have a 2003 toyota tacoma 2.4 engine want to change transmission fluid do i have to change filter and gasket . it has a mesh type filter inside .Or just drain and re fill every 30,000 miles .

You should always change the filter when changing the transmission fluid, and a gasket is a good idea too.

Where are the transmission filter located and how te replace it

Not all transmission have a replaceable filter. If it does then you have to drain the fluid (usually there is no drain plug so you have to partially lower the pan) once the fluid is out you remove the pan. Filters are either press fit or have 1 or 2 bolts holding them in. Replace filter, put new gasket on pan if necessary (make sure to completely remove old gasket) refill Trans with the correct fluid. And check fluid level following manufacturers recommended procedure.

Change transmission fluid rav4 2003

There is a shallow pan under your vehicle, the deeper one would be your oil pan, you will need the new gasket and probably a filter to replace once you get the pan off,replace filter,gasket,refill,once refilled you will need to: w/parking brake on and foot on brake you will have take it slowly but not too slow thru all your gears from p to 2 if you have all the low gears, but then take it back thru the gears again.check for leaks, then check the fluid level,add as needed.

Change transmission oil

Hi Peter, If your Camry has an automatic transmission, for normal driving the auto fluid should be changed every 40,000km, there should be a drain plug on the transmission pan that takes a 10mm hex drive or 17mm socket to undo. You have two choices after driving the car onto ramps or jacking up and supporting on jack stands so you can safely get under the car. 1 - You can loosen and remove the transmission drain plug to let the auto fluid drain out into a container (careful not to lose the sealing washer) refit and tighten the drain plug and washer again. Remove the auto transmission fluid level dip stick, using a suitable funnel pour about 2.5 litres of suitable new auto trans fluid back into the transmission via the dipstick tube (I believe they take dexron 2 of 3 type fluid). Start the car and move it onto a level surface. With the engine running, handbrake on and brake pedal applied, shift the transmission from park through every gear selection slowly into 1st gear, then back to park. Leave engine running. Wipe the dip stick & insert it back into the dip stick tube fully, remove and check where the fluid level mark is on the end of the dipstick. If the fluid level indicates low or does not show at all, add 100ml of additional fluid and recheck the level till the fluid reaches the full mark on the dipstick. 2 - The second option is everything in the first option but includes replacement of the transmission filter and pan gasket. I would only do this if the car had travelled high km or the pan gasket was leaking. At the point where you've drained the old fluid into a container and refitted the drain plug and washer, remove all the transmission pan bolts and the transmission pan. If you have the time to let the fluid drain overnight prior to removing the pan it's a good idea because once the pan is removed, fluid will continue to drip from the transmission. You'll need to remove the old pan gasket, some may be stuck to the pan and or transmission, a razor blade type gasket scraper can be good for this but be careful not to scratch either surface when cleaning off the old gasket. Remove the bolts/nuts that hold the transmission filter onto the bottom of the transmission. Careful caus more fluid may drain out of the transmission or filter once removed. Fit the new filter and filter tube gasket & bolts/nuts, careful not to over tighten. Fit new pan gasket, pan and bolts. Continue with fluid filling procedure from option 1. I would suggest you only use option one and remember to double check the drain plug is tight. Also, remember to dispose of the old fluid correctly. Cheers

The 60K service on this vehicle requires the following....

Change engine oil and engine oil filter. X X X X X Change rear axle fluid. X X Change front axle fluid (4X4). X X Inspect brake linings. X X Inspect engine air cleaner filter, replace if necessary. X Replace spark plugs. X Inspect PCV valve, replace as necessary.* X Inspect auto tension drive belt and replace if required. X Drain and refill transfer case (4X4). X Drain and refill automatic tranmission fluid, change filter and adjust bands (3.7L). X Drain and refill automatic tranmission fluid and change main sump filter (4.7L).

My 1990 toyota celica transmission sometimes takes 15 to30 seconds to go into drive. What should I do?

Warm up engine until you see the temp indicator come up off the C mark about 1/8 inch. This should take about 5-8 minutes. Shut off engine and check transmission fluid level. Always check level with engine warmed up. After adding fluid, run it again for 5 minutes to warm up the fluid you just put in, and check it again. Do not over fill. Also examine color of your fluid. It should be red. If it is brown, or reddish brown, it's burnt. Drain fluid, remove pan, clean off magnet inside of pan. clean out sludge from pan. replace filter and gasket.replace pan, refill fuid, warm up and check level.

2003 Toy Tacoma transmission pan have a gasket

There is a gasket supplied when you buy the transmission filter for all transmissions that your vehicle would have came with. You don't want to be using that stuff on a transmission pan, as a replacement for a gasket. I would wonder if the filter was changed?

no drain plug, no car or truck has had a drain plug for decades, reason? they want the filter changed with the fluid, so they make you pull the trans pan to drain the fluid, one very messy job.

Transmission fluid change

More than likely, like most automatic transmissions, yours does not have an oil plug. You need to drop the transmission oil pan to drain the old oil... You need to buy a transmission filter/pan gasket kit. The filter is located on the bottom of the tranny. You will see it when you remove the pan. Replace the filter, thoroughly remove any traces of old gasket material, clean the mating surfaces, and reinstall the pan with the new gasket. Torque the pan bolts to the manufacturers spec (you should be able to get this where you buy the filter/gasket kit). Refill the transmission through the dipstick (Capacity for the Voyager is 4 quarts, make sure to use ATF Plus (Type 7176) for your particular tranny, NOT Dexron, Mercon, or generic automatic transmission fluid, Chrysler transmissions do not like any other kind and tend to fail quite quickly with the wrong fluid). Fill to the full cold level. Start the engine, move the shifter through all gear ranges, and put it back in park. Leave the engine running and refill to cold full. Drive the car for 5-10 minutes and, with the engine still running and the car in park, fill to Hot full. You should be ready to go!
