1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup overheating + engine

For many of the 90's and 2000's Toyota various models - Camry, Tacoma, 4 Runners, Corolla, and some other models it is usually caused by temperature sensitive fan switch on the radiator not operating. Electric fan on the radiator should operate when temp above 200 degrees. Less often the control relay 90987-03003 is defective. Check if bubbling in the radiator smells like exhaust. That would indicate a blown head gasket. A jumper wire from your marker light positive to the lower contact in the fan control relay socket will operate your fan when parking lights are on. The larger vehicles with more powerful radiator fans will need a hefty jumper from a headlight positive to avoid overheating the lighting wiring. Make sure the engine is off and warmed up to check the radiator core with your hand to see if it is getting circulation. If it is all cold the thermostat might be stuck.

1997 toyota tacoma will not go into 4 wheel drive

Has the transfer case ever been serviced? The fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles, if not the works can stick and cause engagement problems. Make sure the vacuum to the front hubs is available, if the front hubs are not locking the front drive shaft will turn but no Front wheel lock up and no 4 wheel drive is available.

How to change fuel injectors on 97 Toyota Tacoma 4.0

The Toyota Tacoma has a fuel injector that mixes fuel with air. This technology almost completely replaced in the late 1980s and its programmable firmware allows the same hardware to be used with different fuels. A fuel injector is only a nozzle and a valve; it still requires a pump to inject the fuel into the engine.
  • Determine which fuel injector your Toyota Tacoma will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made before 2005 may have a 2.4L, 2.7L or 3.4L engine. The current version may have a 2.7L or 4.0L engine.
  • Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Remove the engine under cover subassembly and drain the engine coolant. Detach the intake air connector and disconnect the throttle body motor assembly with a socket wrench.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines and remove the fuel pressure pulsation damper assembly with a socket wrench. Unplug the electrical connectors for the fuel and vacuum switching valve. Remove the engine wiring harness clamp and the air conditioning compressor clutch connector with a socket wrench.
  • Remove the two fuel rail mounting bolts with a socket wrench and lift out the fuel rail with the injectors still attached. Pull out the fuel injectors and discard the old gaskets.
  • Use new gaskets and install the new fuel injectors by reversing the removal procedure.
  • Fill the coolant reservoir with coolant of the proper grade and type. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.

97 tacoma extended cab 4x4. had new leaf springs

Are the new springs that were fitted original factory or after market? New springs will be less flexible than old ones until they settle into use. This will explain the increase in ride height. Old springs soften so the ride height drops a small amount. At higher speeds your getting more down force so the suspension will settle. Remember she's a 20 year old truck, things start to sag as you get older.

SR5 fan clutch problem???

Try replacing your radiator cap. The fan clutch could be a problem. It is not real hard to change out. It should be pretty self explanatory if you look at it. They are not controlled by any wires or anything. Your water pump is driven by your timing belt so if either of those need replaced, always do both. You most likely have a short somewhere, and or a blown fuse or two. Check all fuses, then trace wires. Check all grounds first, then check the ignition wires and headlight to multi function switches(levers on steering column) and see if there's a hot wire hitting a ground somewhere.
