and one other , would a miss timing on the fuel pump cause engine .... The only thing I've ever seen with a Mazda dieselengine was an old Mercury Lynx. ... Ford Ranger Mazda B25002.5TD Servicing Guide Part 2 - Air and .
As far as I am aware, you don't set the timing on a fuel pump. It pumps fuel to maintain a set pressure, and just keeps running until you turn off the engine.
Hi Sarah, I'm guessing that the pump you removed is the diesel injector pump. I'm continuing with that assumption. When you removed the pump to attend to the seal did you set it to the match marks which are on the pump housing and the front of the engine where the pump fits in? Timing a diesel engine is shall we say, tricky. I think before we proceed let me know exactly what job you carried out on your vehicle? Describe it tome in detail and then we'll go from there. check to see that your mechanical fuel pump is working on the lower right side of the engine. VERY problematic pump due to design and location. Have you replaced your fuel filter with the injector pump swap? cause you need to do that , its a must
If your getting fuel to your injector pump you have to bleed the lines to each cylinder to bleed out the air in the system.
If that all checks out then you need to set the timing to 8 deg using a timing light and a diesel injection pulse width adapter timing tool.
purchase a haynes manuel for 6.9l/7.3l diesel engines to follow the correct procedure for setting timing to manufactures spec.
You will have to disconnect sensor at certain times during the timing stage so make sure it is done right!
PS - I hope you marked a reference line on the pump to line up with the line on the housing cause that will get you close to start!
good luck
a diesel engine can only cutout when overheating, loss of diesel fuel and air leak in the fuel system. if you know how to bleed or ask somebody to bleed right after it stall, then start the car, if it starts immediately then it is sucking air.
there is a little mark on the crankshaft which you line up with the 'o' mark on the casing ..
remove the cam cover and look at the cam you should see a nob on the cam about 3 th lob and that should be facing just left of the engine ..
if you have a turbo there is two notchs on the injection pump pully ..if turbo there is a 't' mark on the rear of the cover the notch on the pully should mark up with the 't'..
the timing is set..
it could be that one of the injectors is bleeding off pressure not allowing enough fuel pressure to start. the 5.9 and 6.7 cummins need at least 2000 psi to start
isusu engine?? have you looked for a 8mm hole in timing gear that corresponds with a hole on plate behind then lock it in with a bolt ,remove bolt after tightening belt .DONT FORGET THIS ???.....if you cant find anything do it with no timing marks easy --- piston no 1 at tdc valves closed spin pump till fuel comes out of no 1 injector feed and lock it all together, indirect diesel is 6/8 ,,,,,direct injection is 12/16,,,,and turbo is 18/22 btdc
