Sounds like a broken connecting rod, you will have to remove the pan to find out.

automatics do not change gears the gears are constant mesh and the ratio changes ( gears) is achieved by bands and clutches change the transmission oil , and have the bands and clutches adjusted

You have a shorted 12 volt wire, you must locate that wire and repair it. I have no idea which or where this wire is or what it is shorted to. I would need to do the work to repair it, just can't do it over this computer keyboard. Below is a wiring diagram of the lighting system, it will help you to locate the problem.

pull the knobs off there will b 2 nuts holding the radio in place 1 on the volume knob 1 on the channel selector remove them if the radio does not pull out loosen the back brace at rear of radio unplug wiring harness and antenna and its out

I would be checking the wiring for a short circuit, possibly around the steering column, or check around the indicator lights for possible cuts in the loom or water ingression that might be causing a short. basically check all from switch to lights.

go on line to the carby manufacturer (holley-carter or others) and check out the parts section

gas or diesel ? if its gas find shrader valve (tire valve looking thing) on injector fuel manafold top of engine tap key on/off several times depress center of valve with plastic point nothing metal (old ink pen?) look for fuel to briefly spray out a bit (shield eye's) no fuel ck fuel pump , filter and inertia switch ,yes fuel ck all the sensors the injectors are not firing Diesel ? A 86 would be A IdI type so loosen fuel fitting(one turn) to top of # 4 injector (you can't reach others) Do not remove it (High pressure!!!) crank engine several times over look for fuel leak at fitting thats loose ,it might even start if injector pump was airlocked that happens alot from sitting ,if it does don't get your body near loose fitting(high pressure) too dangerous shut off key and tighten fitting then restart engine

Does it have a carburetor or is it fuel injected? In 1986 it could be either way. It sounds like a carburetor with a choke problem.
