Diesels can idle rough, if no check engine light I wouldn't worry. Check the injectors, vw diesels have the injectors work loose allot

It can be issue with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem.

There are many other possibilities causing these idle issues. Engine idles rough.

Check for a loose or broken vacuum hose or attachment.Or the air intake hose to throttle might be loose. don-ohio

Has it ever been tune up,

when the ac compressor comes on, the engine should rev up a little to compensate for the strain of the compressor and if this is not happening, then you would get that rough idle. Some engines have a valve control to let in a little air into the engine intake so that it revs a little. I think this is called an AC step up.

Could be the fast idle sensor check to see that the vacume line is hooked up properly.

I would like more info on the vehicle, as to the engine size. There are vacuum leaks on this engine, both the 4cyl and 6cyl. The injector lower seals are prone to cause this condition, but to check for this and to do it safely, is have it smoke tested with the proper test equipment. The EGR valves can also stick partially open, causing a rough idle and then a idle fluctuation and a stalling problem. Another poss cause is the idle control motor is failing. This vehicle should be taken in for service at a very reputable repair shop. If not properly diag, will cost hundreds of dollars just to "PUT PARTS ON IT UNTIL IT RUNS GOOD".

It will deffinitely have a form of idle control, sometimes it is part of the throttle body but there will be one... 100% certain.

Rough idle as in lumpy will not be an ICV related fault, as with ICV it will either have solid high revs or none at all.

It will either be an inlet vacuum issue - split hose, gasket, MAFS etc or an irratic voltage caused by things like a Lambda or worn throttle potentiometre

Describe the rough idle in more detail if you can, also are you UK or USA etc.

Do you know what cc and engine code your car is?

If your car is fuel injection,try changing the cold start temp sender.
