I started my car this morning, let it run for about 10 minutes or so to warm up. I tried putting in reverse to back out and heard a popping noise, then car cut out. It now starts but wont stay running unless idling.

Car needs to warm up properly so that the automatic choke disengages completely,
After allowing the car to run at idle for a minute or two,
Give the accelerator pedal a quick push to about 1/3 throttle,
Idle speed should drop back to normal running speed and the car drive properly

Does the noise change or go away if you turn defrost on-which will engage the compressor-if so may be the clutch dragging.

Cv joints or drive shaft universal joints.

that noise is 1 of your belts. there is 3 belts on it. and with the power steering noise I think it is your power steering belt needs to replaced or agjusted

check power steering fluid.

Well you mean it doesn't even move forward ? and i would advice you to check the oil level and try to have the filter changed and put in new fluid again and this might solve your problem. and if dont work then you try to get a transmission for a junk yard for cheap, Around $150/$200 and have your Mechanic( friend) put it in.lol

Sounds like the battery cables might be dirty, or your battery might be going ad.

two things...your lifters are worn out and you timing chain tensioner is also worn try a 20-50 oil or a can of stp

its proberly what they call a secondary air intake pump - what this does is increase the air flow only on cold start up - the colder it is the longer it stays on - if the noise gets louder and you will notice - get it changed - we have the same problem over here on the vauxhall omega and corsa's - bless em got to be GM

The torque converter has gone out.
