How many oxygen sensors in a 2001 chrysler sebring 3.0

  • Anonymous Sep 10, 2010

    JZLimited,

On the picture above for the 2.7 liter engine, are these sensors located on top of the engine if I am looking under the hood? The picture looks like the oil dipstick is on the left side.

Since 1996, most vehicles are fitted with 2 oxygen sensors. There is one upstream from teh cataytic converter and one downstream, just behind the catalytic converter. The upstream O2 sensor is generally the one that fails first, but if the check engine light is on, check to see which fault code the computer is setting. If it's #1 Oxygen sensor, then the upstream one is at fault. (#2 is the downstream sensor.)

I hope this helps! :)

Bank 1 is the exhaust manifold at the firewall, sensor 2 is the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter.

The sensor you indicate would be on the manifold of the head containing cyl.# 1, top sensor (prior to catalytic conv.) 6 cyl. engine. 4 cylinder would be sensor on exhaust manifold. Confirm sensor failure prior to replacing as chrysler harness connectors are known for pin failures at 02 sensor connections. Inspect for burnt pins and cracked/chaffed wires first before changing sensor.

It's low on refrigerant ( probably uses R-134a) available at WalMart. Low refrigerant pressure switch deactivates A/C compressor for safety reasons.

Should be located close to the oil filter. It will screw in like a spark plug. It has a harness plug. Easy to change, save yourself $70 in labor. You will need a fairly large wrench to remove

How to change the upstream oxygen sensors on 2001 chrysler sebring 2.7

It's pretty easy. Spray it liberally with solvent to work on the threads. PB blaster, or Liquid Wrench. There is a special socket at parts stores (looks like a sparkplug socket with an opening for the elec. connector). Don't always need it, most have mounting bolts now. I use anti-seize compound on the threads, in case you ever want to remove it again. Be sure and take negative cable off before beginning.

It will be very much appreciated if you could send me the information about how to replace the O2 sensors on a 1998 chrysler sebring convertible.

Hello, Eventually your Chrysler Sebring's oxygen sensor will go bad and need to be replaced. The oxygen sensor regulates the oxygen-to-fuel ratio in your vehicle. It also controls your gas mileage. It senses when more or less oxygen needs to be pumped into the fuel lines. If it fails, your Sebring will run poorly and won't get very good gas mileage. Knowing how to change it yourself can save your money. Here are the instruction to change o2 sensors.
Locate your Sebring's oxygen sensor on the pre-catalytic converter. This is located near the front right wheel well of your vehicle. Apply some anti-seize paste to the threads of the new oxygen sensor. Be careful not to get any of the paste on the sensor itself, or it will be ruined. This makes for easy removal of the sensor next time.Remove the old oxygen sensor, using the 7/8-inch wrench. Find the stock sensor wire near the engine-loop lift. This will be by the firewall of your Chrysler Sebring. Splice the stock sensor wire and connect it to the new oxygen sensor's wire, using crimp connectors.Remove the large air-intake pipe that runs from the air box to the rear turbo. Then remove the two smaller air pipes that run from the air box to the blowoff valves. This will give you access to the oxygen sensor. Soak the old oxygen sensor in WD-40 to loosen it. Screw in the sensor by hand. Use the wrench to fully tighten the oxygen sensor so it cannot be removed by hand. Replace the air pipes to the correct valves again.
