1996 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke , truck is running good then engine will lose power check engine light comes on and then will run fine . Ran a diagnostic and no codes found. I removed oil cap from intake and smoke poured out and smelled like wires burning . What would cause this ? I am guessing glow plug short . Thanks Shane

Blow by is what you are describing coming out of the oil fill cap. A little is normal, it all depends on the internal condition of the engine. I would not be to quick to say that you have glow plug issues. I would look at replacing the cam censor on the 7.3 engine there is a recall from ford for this on some model year 7.3 liter diesels

I PUT A NEW HIGH PRESSURE OIL PUMP IN MY 6.0 2003 POWERSTROKE IT RAN GOOD FOR TWO WEEKS THEN STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND THEN DIED

Ford had a lot of problems with this engine. Most diagnosis requires a factory software scanner or one that can interface with the FICM module (fuel injector control module) Now you can perform injector buzz test and glow plug tests. If you can get running then also do a power balance test these test check fuel injectors statically and dynamically with the common rail oil pressure control sensor. These FICM modules are famous failure parts. Napa auto can get them.

MAYBE YOU CAN TAKE TO ADVANCE AUTO AND THEY CAN HOOK UP DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE FOR FREE AND IT WILL GIVE CODE(S) AS TO WHAT IS WRONG BE SURE ALL FLUID LEVELS ARE FULL

Eml light.. loss of power

Hi
Air flow sensor could be a problem.
Every time EML comes on the car computer will put the system into limp mode. To avoid any further damage to the engine.

once switch off, isolated and re-start will re-run the program and clear it temporary.
Ideally you need to get the car plugged in to a Diagnostic computer and see what fault code are stored.

Thanks
