Timing on 9 3 99 saab how to set timing

You set the cam timing with the engine set to TDC, the cam wheels have a line which should be just to the left of 12 oclock, the ignition timing is controlled by the engine management system and is not adjustable.

My saaB 900s try to start But won't . I replaced every thing , Fuel pump, ignition coil, distriButor and ecu But car still wont' start. The engine light was on But after disconnecting the ecu and ICU, now...

If the fuel pump is'nt running then it's a bad relay or blown fuse. If the pump is running then it could be a few things, a bad timing belt, bad cam sensor, bad crankshaft sensor, could be the timing is off which you can adjust with the distributor, or it could be a bad o2 sensor or MAP sensor.

Key will not turn in ignition of my saab 900s .i had it broke into last night but there doesn t seem to be any damage to the ignition.will i need to change the barrel and if so,how do you do it.thanks dean

This is not an easy job as the entire lock assembly must be replaced and correctly adjusted during reassembly. Any immobiliser keys will also need to be reprogrammed to the vehicle. If your Saab has the typical Saab transmission mounted ignition key then it's the transmission lock which must be replaced, if it's mounted on the steering column then the entire steering column lock needs changing.

Both assemblies are deliberately difficult to remove and require specialist skills and tools. As an example, the devices are secured using security bolts on which the heads are designed to break off once fully assembled, adjusted and tested. To remove them, the headless bolts must be drilled out but access is usually difficult and the bolts are of hardened steel.

You are strongly advised to get this job done professionally: as the damage was due to an attempted theft it will be covered by all UK policies (except for those with just Third Party cover) and also by many US and Aussie/NZ policies.

If you need the ignition timing, it is under the hood on the engine/emissions info sticker.

Saab ignition problem

it is definately the main relay. if you replace the relay then you will fix the problem. Over time the circuit board cracks and causes it to go bad.

Theft alarm sounds w/o provocation

This sometimes can also be related to the internal batteries in the alarm ECU or alarm siren module going bad. If your handy the internal batteries can be replaced without buying a new replacement unit. Otherwise, the entire module must be replaced ($$$). Lastly, you can have a Saab indy or dealer disarm the theft alarm on the vehicle. You retain your keyless operation, but the alarm is not active. This is done in the programming and adjustment menus in the TWICE unit with the Saab Tech 2 computer.

Ignition switch on my 1987 Saab 900i

You may need to remove the ignition housing assembly to find out whats wrong inside. There are a series of small gears which connect the ignition barrel to the ignition switch & also operate the reverse gear lock mechanism. You'll need a special 3 pronged tool to remove the assembly - available from SAAB dealers.
