SOURCE: I have a ford mustang
ok, you may not like this, but it happened to me on a 01 mustang i was working on in my shop. It came in with engine noise, and after solving the noise on testdrive i experienced the same thing. It ended up being the torque converter, which ofcourse is inside the bell housing. Once the new converter was installed and filled it solved the problem. Also look at the dipstick, in park running when warm, inspect the fluid. smell it. does it smell burnt? is the color a bright transparent red? or is it a dingy maroon? you may be able to do a transmission service (filter and gaskit) and be ok.
Good luck!

Hi there,
As your Auto transmission is fully electronic, it could be anything from faulty sensors sending incorrect signals to the trans computer, or faulty internal components. Your best bet is to have the trans computer scanned for 'fault codes' (as the computer monitors and retains all faults) by your local Ford dealership.
This process will identify the likely component/s which are causing this problem.
My guess is, there may be a problem with the 2nd clutch (yes that's right, automatics have internal clutches!), input and/or output shaft switches sending incorrect signals to the computer.
But, there could be so many other possibilities....so, I recommend you get the codes scanned and go from there.....

The blinking overdrive button is telling u that a serious fault has occurred in the electronic controls or a mechanical fault such as excess slippage is occurring.

Its possible you have a code stored in the computer to help guide you.
Its also possible its time for a rebuild. Someone will have to remove the pan to see if there is any wear on the clutches.
What condition is the trans fluid in. Is it brown and burnt.
If your not sure you may need to get it inspected at least to see if you have a code stored, We can only guess here not seeing what condition the truck is in.
