Hi erose5450, I'm glad to help! If you have had the Alternator checked and checked good then you have another problem. NOTE: Most all alternators have a fusible link that runs off the back of the alternator and sometimes that link will blow just like a fuse. Here's what you do: Find that wire at the back of the alternator it should be help in place by the same nut that the positive wire is help by. Unhook the negative battery cable then take the nut off and free that wire from the other wiring then pull on it real hard and see if it gets longer, if it does, that means its blown and needs to be replaced. It would be possible to do this as the belt will be out of the way but as it is tensioned then the problem will be how to reinstall it with the tensioner in the way. Far quicker, easier and safer to do the job correctly in the first place especially if you have no experience with engines.

You might Think About the fuel pump. I have a friend having the samw problem. Except hers is a Nissan p/u. I posted it in here. But so far no one is suggesting anything it could be. Thats why im thinking maybe fuel pump

try cleaning the throttle plate and bore. use a toothbrush and carb cleaner. leave the positive battery terminal off while you are cleaning. this will reset the idle strategy in the ecm. wipe it out when your done scrubbin. the idle control motor should be done too.

Your OBD 1 that means put two wire together and it will flash the code by counting the flashes of the ck engine light if your production date is 9/91 you have a recall on the 02 sensor it doesnt matter how long you owned it or if your not the original owner here is the recall number EMR 92 003 but here the deal its only for car in the states like california any other place your out of luck to access the code you will need a voltmeter there it will flash or a analog voltmeter there you will measure the sweep of the needle movement to get the code go under the dash and find the 12 pin connector on the driver side kick panel top right corner is pin 1 and lower left is ground or pin 12 or chasis ground watch the meter movement and count the flashes first flash is long second is short example for code 12 its one long flash is for number 1 two short flash is 2 for code 22 its two long flashes thats 2 and 2 short flash is 2 put it together its 22 there can be a combination of code there your care doesnt really have that much management just EGR, TPS, just the simple needs

A high idle is caused from a vacuum leak, check the vacuum hoses for cracks, worn against something, any elbows need checked, IAC (idle air control) you will hear a hissing sound, remove the intake tube just before the throttle body and listen for the IAC to close it won't draw as much air if it's working correctly, try cleaning the IAC with throttle body cleaner.

You really need to get it scanned to find out the codes, helping greatly with diagnosis. Could be many things ranging from a faulty mass airflow sensor, a bad throttle position sensor, or a vacuum leak just to name a few. Getting the codes will give great direction to pinpointing the problem.

it is possible the points in the distributer cap have failed, or worn. check your spark plugs (you will need 2 people for this) or even just your leads by having one person turn the engine over and the other holding 1 lead (just take one off at a time) against the engine block it should throw a spark and arc to the block ******DONT TOUCH THE SPARK IT HURTS****** if you dont get a spark then it is most likly a distributer problem. Firstly check for a feed to the fuel pump first ,because it wouldnt be the first time i have had customers run out of petrol and then the pump works overtime scavenging and blows the fuse or the pump overheats and cooks because the fuel cools the pump .Check this out first then if still a problem answer this post and we will go from their

You will need to know the motor size or number of cylinders. I believe it only came with a 2.0 liter, but I may be mistaken. They may want to know if it is automatic or standard transmission and if it has A/C or not. They will ask what model Galant it is also, base model, GS, GSR, etc.
