97 audi a4 no power/battery fuse?

Changed starter motor on my 97 audi a4 (manual)
reconnected battery neg ...a bit of a spark ...now no power at all ...checked all fuses .. three times ....found only 1 50a maxi fuse all ok ........any ideas????

    for reasons best known to myself.....earthed the main battery lead to the gearbox......not the starter......it was a freezing/wet sunday morning...i wont do that again in a hurry.lol....thanks for the help, the diagnosis was spot on!

Sounds like either the battery leads are on the wrong way round, or the starter main cable is touching something and shorting to earth. Retrace your steps and check your connection locations.
Either that or its a dead short through the starter. Remove main cable from back of starter and tape up incase of short. then reconnect battery. If ok now then your looking at starter motor.

All Windows or 1? If all check fuses. layout is in owners manual as well as locations. If one window either the window switch or window motor. If you a little mechanical you can change out switch. If not find a good mechanic with references on your car. Motor is more labor intensive. Hope just the switch. If it is the fuse and you replace it and it blows again, short in the wiring. Good luck

Starter - removing and installing
Caution!
Disconnect the battery Ground strap before working on the electrical system.
Notes:
1. Before disconnecting the battery, determine the correct coding for the anti-theft radio.
2. Once the battery is reconnected, check and activate the vehicle's electrical equipment (radio, clock, comfort and convenience features, etc) as described in the Owners Manual.

Audi a4 2002:- battery was disconnected and reconnedted now electric windows not working
now disconnect only the negative side of the battery while the ignition is on, but engine off. After 3 minutes connect the negative, start the car and see if they perform. if not, locate the fuse for your power windows, it might be blown.

Fuse box for 97 audi asap
Hi pojo_nz,The fuses should be in the same place as my 95 Audi A4,open the drivers door and look at the end of the dash right in front of you,there is a plastic cover,pull it off its just clipped on and you will find the fuses there.

LOOKED UP MY HAYNES WORKSHOP MANUAL (WIRING DIAGRAMS) WORKS WITH THE POWER SUPPLY CONTROL UNIT, THERE IS ONLY ONE FUSE ON THE DIAGRAM FOR HEADLIGHTS ,SIDE, TAIL AND THATS FOR THE WHOLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 150AMPS RIGHT NEXT TO BATTERY.............. Car will turn over but not start.97 audi a4 1.8
It sounds like you don't have quite enough juice to start it. Sometimes vehicles will turn over but won't start when battery is low. Have someone jump you with jumper cables and I bet it will start then have your battery tested. If it won't start try giving it a shot of starter fluid as well as jump starting it and this will probably do the trick. If not you will have to have it diagnosed professionally. Good Luck
