Timing belt trouble

Timing belt keeps riding over.put on new pulleys new tensioner and new belt but is still riding over and causing it to jump time.can anyone help

    have you made sure the water pump is not bad? if the bearings in the pump are loose then the belt will not stay on. hope this helps

Hi are you sure you have the correct belt for it.some timing belts have square teeth some round check this as well as how tight it should be .i use the twist test, the belt should not be able to twist any more 90 degrees at its longest run.check to make sure any of the shafts are not seized .in any case if a timing belt has slipped it most likely have bent the valves and the cam shaft may not be able to do a complete reveloution and stop in its travel and belt slips .hope this helps

You may have put the belt on with the ridges to the opposite direction.Timing belts have a certain direction where th ridges will not slip. Are you tightening the belt fairly tight ? Try turning the belt where the ridges are the opposite way. You will have to remove the belt.

1994 Dodge Grand Caravan. Does anyone know what could cause the serpentine belt on a Dodge Grand Caravan to come off every time it rains?
Tensioner badly adjusted or pulleys are misaligned.

Take it back to the shop and ask them to fix the tension under the repair warranty.

There should be enough tension that the belt can't jump the pulleys. There is a small chance is is misrouted.

1438HS Saber deck belt keep jumping off the tension pulley when blades engaged after a minute or two.
I think I would look for bearing wear and pulley alignment next time the belt comes off.

My sepantine belt keeps sliding off and brand new tensioner what could be the problem
check pulley alignment as any pulley that is out of alignment can cause this, maybe when you changed the timing belt you left out a spacer for one of the serpentine belt pulleys. also make sure the belt is on all the pulleys correctly.

Want stay in timing
If you have replaced the spring loaded belt tensioner ( leave the pully nut loose ) then on refitting the belt , at a point midway between the two cam pulleys there should be a maximum deflection of .37" to .45 " ( 3/8 to just under 1/2") with a 22 lbs load applied on the belt . the tensioner pulley is then tightened up at the pulley nut to 28 -38ft lbs torque setting

I have a 1998 Dodge Stratus ES and am having problems getting the timeing belt on. Can somebody please explain how we may put the belt back on without a bunch of trouble?
Make sure your timing marks are lined up and start putting your belt on the rear cam first that would be 1,3,5 cam. Then route it under the water pump and up around the front cam 2,4,6 cam being careful the rear cam don't jump off it's mark. Keep tension on the belt while routing it. Continue routing it over the idler pulley keeping tension on it route it down and around the crank sprocket. Now set your tension pulley and replace the tension pin. Once the belt is set hand crank the engine 2 to 3 complete cycles then recheck your marks. This is for a 2.5 engine. Good luck hope this helps.

Sqeaking from the accessory belt drive. could be a bearing in one of the pulleys, the pump, the alt or the belt tension has weakened. It occurs off and on, usually just off idle but sometimes at idle. Is...
common cause is the belt gets worn and stretched, yes the tensioner is suppose to keep its tension but also the tensioner gets weak and all it takes is a couple slips of the belt to harden and you will get a squeal. Spray WD 40 on tensioner, idler pulleys, alternator behind pulley, not on belt or where belt rides on pulleys but at all bearing locations. Did squeal stop? If not replace belt. Usually a chevy water pump will leak, or grind not sqeak unless there is rusty non lubricated so called coolant in it which 1974 maybe but 2007 na im sure you didn't neglect this baby. You can also inspect the belt carefully, possibly buy a can of belt dressing and spray belt but do make sure you use a ratchet and check your belt tensioner for smooth non sticky tension pressure.

you most likely have to change the tensioner assembly some people just change the pulley itself but the arm that the pulley bolts to wears out allowing the arm to shift a little bit forcing the belt to walk off the pulley thats why when it comes to changing a noisey pulley its best to change the whole tensioner

My timing baelt keep jumping off the bottom pullly
Either your idler pulley or tensioner pulley is warn out and causing the belt to not run true or there is something wrong with the belt itself. Does the bottom pulley feel smooth other then the grooves like nothing is down there causing the belt to jump off? And assuming you put the belt back on, you did put it on the way the diagram told you to right?
