The car will turn over but will not start as if no

Try spraying starting liquid at the throttle body and then start. If it starts and runs smooth then its faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter issue.--------

A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also these problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the car. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt. If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the car starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the car. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the car to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the car. If its very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the car. If the car starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the car is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gauge and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. If the injectors don't have pulse the engine won't start. ---------- This troubleshooting tips will help you to solve the problem. Thanks. Helpmech.

No spark but car cranks over

Have you checked for fuel pressure ? With only 1 coil pak out, the car should start. So, start from the beginning, ... Check for spark on several plug wires. If spark, then check for fuel, is the fuel pump working? Check the breaker in the trunk, drivers side behind the panel. If still no fuel, then could be a wire short or fuse,or just the pump in the tank needs to be replaced. If you do have spark and fuel, then check the MAF sensor on the air intake. This will shut the motor down more so then the MAP. Only Ford has this part and it cost's, and once you open the box they will not take it back. Have someone, or even Ford check the MAF sensor, or check at a scrap yard for hopefully a good used one. There's more to check, including the crank sensor, but start with this. Good luck.

I need to know how

The turn signal switch or in Ford terms "multi-function" switch is easy to replace if you are mechanically inclined. Lower the steering column "tilt" adjustment for easier access. Remove the lower panel (below the steering column). Remove the three screws from the plastic column covers that surround the multi-function switch. Turn the key to the run position, then from the bottom side of the column, use a very small pocket screwdriver, allen wrench or similiar tool to push up on the ignition cylinder release pin. The hole is located just below the cylinder. With the pin pushed, pull out on the key and cylinder. Next seperate the two cover halves and you will see the complete multi-function switch. remove the two attaching screws, remove the electrical connectors and replace the switch. Replace all removed components and you're done! You can purchase the switch at most auto parts stores, ford dealers or ebay. Feel free to ask if more information is needed and I appreciate a vote of four thumbs up. Good luck!

Turn signals do not work

You probably have a short somewhere or you have a bad relay.

Check in your fuse box and see if there is a relay (a big button looking plug with all your small fuses) that is labeled to control the turn signals. More than likely there is a relay for your emergency lights. Go to your local parts store, get the replacements for your vehicle, pull out the old ones and put in the new ones.

If this doesn't solve the problem, then you've probably got a short somewhere and you will need to go to a shop that specializes in auto electrical to get it diagnosed.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to make sure the battery is good and holding a charge. Make sure the terminals are cleaned and tight. Check you wires and make sure they are not damaged from the battery to the starter. Make sure all wires are connected. If you are getting a bad connection, it will cause this. Check your ignition fuse as well. If this all checks out, check the starter and starter solenoid. Make sure no wires are damaged around the starter. You should find your issue looking at these parts. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and thanks for using FixYa and have a great evening.

My 96 grand marquis wont stay started unless the

Hello, There are several Vacuum lines, but I would say that you should disconnect the Vacuum line you are talking about and plug it. Then see if the engine runs even better. I am thinking it may be an EGR line and about the only difference between what you did and leaving the line unplugged is the EGR did not move.

Now there are Solenoids on the engine to control the Vacuum flowing to the EGR and one of the Solenoids may be open when it should be shut. So you can not verify the EGR is bad unless you have a Vacuum test gauge or press up on the EGR diaphragm with your fingers and see if the diaphragm is ruptured. A ruptured diaphragm will not hold Vacuum. Also the EGR is hot when the engine runs and the Solenoids switch off and on so rely on the on-board computer.

You should be setting off "check engine" lights if any of the Solenoids are bad. If you have found a way to make the engine run, it will give it time to diagnose the problem. There can be a few vacuum controls under the dash which can operate the A/C and heat flaps. Trace the Vacuum line.

If you are disconnecting the big Vacuum line to your Brake booster you need to reassess what you are doing. You would not have power assist for the Brakes.

I owned a 1994 Crown Vic and currently have a 2002 Marquis. So I have a good idea where the Vacuum lines go as your engine is the same. Autozone and Oreillys and Advance will scan for free. They may not want to do it without an engine light on, but if the problem is not the EGR then you need a scan. I hope I have helped you.

1996 FORD CROWN VICTORIA AIR COMPRESSOR/SUSPENSION

it is hard to say were they might have disconnected the system, but i can give you a few places to check, you stated that you checked the fuses, but lets just make sure , there are 3 fuses for the system in the under hood fuse box there is a 30 amp air/suspn. pump fuse, in the instrument panel fuse box there are 2 fuses #5 & #18 both are 15 amp fuses. also there is an air suspn. relay ( this is what we usealy remove to disable the system ) it is in the under hood relay center. also they may just have unhooked the compressor it is mounted under the hood under the air cleaner assambly. as for the plugins in the trunk i have no idea what they might be , there are allot of things in the trunk of a crown vic. but most likley they are for the power antana.there should not be any thing in the trunk for the air ride other then the service switch.....good luck

let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

How do I replace the EGR hose on a 1996 Crown

this is easy but depends if its the vacuum hose or the hoses to pressure sensor, the vacuum hose uses vacuum hose and you cut to size but if it for the sensor then you will need high heat hose so it will not burn, remove the broken hose and take it to a auto parts store and they will match it, take note the pressure sensor has two hoses make sure to label which hose goes where they are not interchangeable, good luck.

How do I repair a drive link on my 96 crown vic

If you are talking about the rear swaybar link, there are new bolts with the bushings at aftermarket stores. You need to get under the vehicle and replace the bolts which usually rust to bits. I do not know what type of shelter you have to work in or available tools, but if you want to do it yourself it can be a pain to get the rusted parts off.

It is worse with the fuel tank and Air suspension bags in the area. If one side of the link fell down, for the Winter I would replace the bushings and bolt on the bad side and leave the remaining side go till Spring.

If you have a hoist, or are paying someone, put the full set of parts in. The top of the mounts are difficult to service and you can easily lose a wrench in the frame if I am thinking about the correct Model. You do have to overcome the flex built into bar by positioning the axle to minimize the tension.

If your question is about a different chassis link please advise and I will try to help you.
